Terror
in Bali ~
An
Australian Tragedy
Thirteen
months after the day
the
attack in New York City,
A tragedy
occured in a placed called Kuta
on the
island of Bali ~
A popular
holiday destination
a fun
relaxed atmosphere,
Frequented
by Australian tourists
who
never had any reason to fear ~
But that
all changed on October 12th,
a day
we'll never forget,
When
Australians became direct targets
by an
enemy they've never met ~
A popular
night club at Kuta Beach,
partying
until morning
When
a blast rocked the entire block
without
any prior warning ~
Screams
were heard throughout the place
as walls
came tumbling down
Fire
engulfed what used to be
the
building and its surrounds ~
Horrifed
tourists, mostly Australian,
innocent
of any crime
Except
the fact they chose to be
in the
wrong place at the wrong time ~
People
crying in disbelief
as bodies
lay everywhere,
Some
were panicking they lost loved ones
as others
could only stare ~
How could
this happen in this place;
what
would it achieve?
Just
a lot of pain and senseless loss
left
for those who grieve ~
As fire
crews fought through the night
and
volunteers were on hand
To help
recover survivors and victims;
no one
could understand.
The RAF
were called to transport
all
the victims home
Back
to Australia to be treated
in hospitals
well-reknowned ~
For many
people were critically burnt
to well
over 60 percent
And
needed to receive immediate care
and
specialised treatment ~
Some
didn't make it on the journey,
for
others Bali was their grave,
While
survivors returned home to loved ones
thankful
that they were saved ~
All were
tearful for what they saw
and
what they had been through
The
terror that filled the once-quiet place
could
never be compared to ~
For many,
the shock still remains
while
others refuse to leave
Until
they find what's happened to
those
for whom they grieve ~
As the
Balinese try to clean the mess
of this
horrific experience
While
people ask, why did this happen,
it doesn't
make any sense ~
But as
people began to question
the
motives behind this attack
All
came up with one answer;
to pay
Australia back ~
When
terrorists attacked the US last year
our
prime minister offered his hand
For
Australia to help in America's fight;
united
we would stand ~
So to
hit a popular tourist spot
where
Australians holiday
Is an
attempt to send a message
to keep
out of their way ~
Honestly,
I don't think Australia
should
ever get involved
For
war will always cause more problems
than
it could ever solve ~
Countries
of the third world
have
been fighting for many years;
So what
good could ever come of it?
just
the shedding of more blood and tears ~
War will
never solve anything
and
I hope our leaders will see
That
fighting will only kill more innocent,
for
only the innocent bleed ~
My hope
and prayer from my heart
is for
the fighting to cease;
God
give us strength to rise above,
that
we may live in peace.

"What
happened in Bali last Saturday was very sad as well as horrific.
My heart goes out to all those who were affected by this heinous attack,
and I pray that you will all find comfort and peace, and are able to move
on from this. My husband feels deeply for the victims who were
caught in the blast and suffered multiple burns, full thinckness in most
cases, and over most of their bodies. He understands as he
has suffered full thickness burns to 70% of his body previously, and knows
the pain and psychologial trauma it can leave behind.
We cannot imagine the sheer terror of those who were in Bali, in the Kuta
Beach Club, at the time of detonation. We cannot imagine what
they were thinking or feeling. We cannot even imagine what
it was like to see the bodies of friends, or even strangers, laying in
a charcoaled mess. We, as a country, can only try to help them,
and give any assistance we can, if need be. Some people lost
whole families or many friends. But we still have hope.
The hope that we will rise above this tragedy. The hope that we will
move on. The hope that we will still live in peace.
War is no answer, and gets us nowhere. Only the innocent bleed,
and there has been too much bloodshed already. Pray for peace;
for a better way; and for hope always. For without hope, we
have nothing.
This
poem is dedicated to the many Australians who experienced, suffered and
were affected in anyway by the tragedy that occurred in Bali on Saturday,
12th October, 2002;
and
to the memory of those who died."
I love
this graphic, and I thought it to be appropriate under the circumstances.
What God must be thinking and feeling at watching His people fight such
cruel wars upon one another.
