The PCs:

Jane Baxter, a 16-year-old Avenger.  Orphaned by vampires, she escaped her abusive foster family with Roger’s help and now lives in Robyn’s house.  Is secretly dating Joe and trying to work through her fear of the undead.  Played by Nikki.

“Killing got us into this mess, and killing will get us out of it.”

Roger Drenn, a mall security guard Visionary with a terrible deformity and a tragic past.  Spends his time pondering ways to destroy monsters, watching out for Jane and Rick, and keeping Suzanne from getting killed for a third time.  Played by Jake.

“You have to understand that they’re all evil.  All of them.  Well, I think so, anyway.”

Aurora Hamilton, a Judge who waits tables and moonlights as a left-wing extremist political commentator.  Very new to this whole hunter thing and still more than a little confused.  Played by Sarah.

“I’m not going to pretend like I know what’s going on here or anything, but…”

Tucker Lewis, a professional race car driver and Visionary.  Recently returned from Canada, where he fled with his family after being menaced by a zombie he had accidentally killed as a teenager.  Played by Ernst.

“The five-second rule definitely doesn’t apply to bloody coffee makers.”

Donovan McCray, a Judge best known as a reporter for the WISC-TV news.  Dreams of someday breaking the monsters’ stranglehold on the media and exposing them to the world.  Played by Noel.

“There’s this guy who lives upstairs…he’s kind of squirrely.”

Dean Mills, a Martyr columnist for the Wisconsin State Journal.  Also new to the hunt, but has jumped feet first into working with the group and investigating leads with the help of Carrie Repke.  Played by Andy.

“Hey, bug-man!  Over here!”

Joe “Soft Shoe” Tiles, an Avenger and former pro baseball player recently released from jail after murdering a pitcher (he was a monster) on national TV.  Drunk, unpredictable, violent, and very useful to have around.  Played by Iain.

“My dad always used to say that a wolf in sheep’s clothing is still a wolf.”

Storyteller: Beth.

“I have to get up pretty early in the morning to stay ahead of you guys.  Good thing that I do.”

Important NPCs (Hunters and Allies):

Isaac Castaneda, a 17-year-old Wayward.  Earned the group’s hatred by carjacking Julian and Mark, shooting Claudia, and generally being a sociopathic little punk.  Is still helping them for some unknown reason, in his own special way.

“Screw you guys, I’m going home.”

Rick Drenn, Roger’s brother and an Avenger.  Recently released from Mendota, where he spent nearly ten years after beating up a fire-eater during his imbuing.  Now lives across the street from Robyn and frequently hunts with the group.

“I like you.  You’re subversive.”

Matt Gehrmann, a Visionary and college dropout who works in a record store and plays drums in a punk band.  Eager yet inexperienced, he’s been accepted into the group as an assistant strategist and a really good distraction.

“The first thing they teach you in Philosophy 101 is that ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ are very strong words…”

Robyn Holmberg, a Redeemer and middle-school guidance counselor.  Paraplegic following a botched hunt led by Nikolai almost four years ago.  Owns the house on Henry Street where the group hangs out.

“It’s the least I can do.”

Claudia Hyde, a Defender and one of the head nurses at the Mendota Mental Health Institute.  One of the first hunters Joe and Roger met in Madison.  Feared by Nikolai.  Invited Isaac to live in her house even after he shot her repeatedly.

“God gave you this power for a reason.  I pray you can find the strength to use it.”

Suzanne Lamott, a ghost first introduced to the group as a repentant vampire.  Joined up to hunt alongside them but was killed by Joe before she got the chance.  Has now delayed her eternal reward to help the group and flirt vaguely with Roger.

“Don’t think of me as a good person or a bad person.  Just think of me as a person.”

Nikolai, a very experienced Visionary.  Lives in Robyn’s house, sleeps underneath his bed, hears lots of voices, and collects information about monsters.  Apparently has a tragic past and a lot of knowledge – too bad no one’s gotten it out of him yet.

“I already lost everything that made me human.”

Raúl Salazar, Donovan’s cameraman, an illegal Mexican immigrant, and a Bystander.

“Oye, doctor, que quieres hacer con el imbécil?”

Grace Stanton, an Innocent studying music at the University of Wisconsin.  Best known as Isaac’s stepsister, she works intermittently with the group but devotes most of her energy to keeping the friendly neighborhood sociopath under control.

“You never listen to me.”

Important NPCs (Monsters and Adversaries):

Leonard Burden, an FBI agent who once investigated Roger.  May or may not be the same person as a) Darren, the historical researcher who lives across the street from Robyn and Nikolai; and/or b) a University of Wisconsin student who blew up a government-funded science lab in the late 60s and then disappeared.  Yup, he’s a mysterious one, he is.

Jasmine Echo, a scientist at the Fleming Pharmaceutical Research Center.  Working on a closely guarded project that researches and develops new kinds of antidepressants.  Apparently some sort of monster.

Alex Jordan, current Prince of Madison.  Lives at the House on the Rock in Spring Green and tries not to get involved in local politics.  Has a sort of non-agression pact with the group in exchange for them owing him a really big favor.

Alexis Patton, a junior at the University of Wisconsin.  Works the front desk at the Fleming Center, but is better known as the shiny demon/everything monster with whom the group has clashed on a number of occasions.

Saul, one of Camille’s lackeys.  Indirectly caused Donovan’s imbuing, stabbed Robyn, and did all sorts of other nasty stuff before being captured and subdued by Alex Jordan.

Olivia Trimble, a women’s studies professor at the University of Wisconsin.  Monster.  Stole a pill bottle taken from a shapechanger from the Madison crime lab, though her connection to the rest of the mystery remains unknown.

Important NPCs (Alignment Unknown):

Jack Klein, a detective with the Madison police.  Investigated the hunters’ actions for a long time and even managed to get Joe arrested.  Resigned from the case after he watched Dean and Aurora being imbued; current whereabouts unknown.

David Pandora, Jasmine Echo’s supervisor at the Fleming Center.  Dean suspects he is a monster and did something weird to him the first time they met, but this has yet to be proven.

Carrie Repke, a reporter for the Wisconsin State Journal.  Monster.  Somehow beats Donovan to breaking news.  Currently involved in an uneasy partnership with Dean to uncover certain aspects of the mystery, but not really trusted by anyone.

Important NPCs (The Defeated):

Camille Lee, a well-known patron of the arts in Madison.  Married to state senator Bill McBride.  Was also a vampire holding the city in a stranglehold of terror.  Killed while she slept by the hunters, along with most of her assistant blood slaves.

Dead and/or MIA:

Cassandra Christianson, an Innocent bull rider and rodeo star.  Lives on a ranch outside Madison.  Peripheral member of the group; hasn’t been seen for weeks.  Played by Missy.

“I think he was more scared of me than I was of him.  And I was pretty scared of him.”

Julian Davis, an itinerant South African Redeemer, EMT, and bakery employee.  Died honorably in battle with Camille Lee’s ghouls.  Played by Meg.

“The truth is, I kind of forgot we were dating until someone reminded me…so why don’t we just break up?”

Adria Jinksen, a teenage Defender on the run from her abusive father.  Committed suicide because she couldn’t choose between letting her father catch up to her and working for Camille.  Played by Missy.

“Who would you do if you had to: Dr. Mark or Nikolai?”

Mark Traynham, a Hermit heart surgeon and practitioner of martial arts.  Shot to death mercilessly by Camille Lee’s butler after choosing the wrong moment to ask for an audience with her.  Played by Marco.

“You make the voices in my head louder.  Why is that?”
