Episode 2
Transformation
When the hunters woke up the next day, Saria suggested that if they
planned on leaving the apartment building anytime soon, they should make an
effort to change their appearance so as not to be so conspicuous. Everyone agreed with varying degrees of
reluctance (Melba was very protective of her beloved dreadlocks). By the end of the day, Marta had contacts
and red highlights in her hair, Melba had changed her style of dress to be less
“ghetto,” and Will had hair that was a dyed a mixture between “Fire Engine Red”
and “Bright As Fuck Yellow.”
To celebrate and get to know one another a little better, Chet
suggested going out on the town.
Looking for a place to go, the group stumbled upon an ad for a place
called Gower’s Nightclub and decided to go there. The club was a nice enough place, but it was Will who had the
best time of anyone. He met up with
some ravers on the dance floor and they hit it off right away. The ravers told Will they knew about a place
to get really good drugs and asked him if he’d like to come along and get in on
the deal. Curious, he agreed and they
led him into a back room. Melba saw him
go, however, and got paranoid given the events of the past few days. She snuck in after him and followed them
into a series of secret rooms upstairs.
Soon, Will and the ravers came to an enormous room that contained
nothing but a desk with a telephone and an Asian man sitting behind it. The man asked the ravers if they had come
for “the same deal as usual,” and they agreed.
Realizing she was in over her head, Melba turned back to get the rest of
the group as the ravers led Will down the hall and into a waiting room full of
people, about half of them ravers and the other half Asian men. At first, it seemed relatively normal—until
Will noticed, to his shock, one of the men he thought he’d killed a few nights
ago. Turning on his second sight, he
realized that all of the Asians in the room registered as not human. He turned around to leave, only to find the
way blocked by the monsters.
Meanwhile, the others rushed toward the room where Melba had last seen
Will go. Will managed to push his way
through the crowds and meet up with the group in the hall, but with a number of
monsters on his tail. Turning to the
rest of the group, Chet commanded, “Get out of here. I’ll handle this.” Not
really knowing what else to do, they ran out to the cars as Chet prepared to
fight. As they pulled out of the
parking lot, they saw a number of shadowy figures coming out of a side door to
the building in pursuit of one larger, bulky figure, but they couldn’t make out
any facial features before they were out of sight.
The group sat around the apartment worrying for a few hours until Chet
showed up in one piece. He’d been
injured pretty badly, with claw marks on his torso and severe scrapes on his
knees and shins, which he claimed he’d gotten jumping out of the window to
escape from the “rots.” (Melba helped
heal him a little bit, however.) The
group didn’t understand how he could’ve survived such a battle, and they
understood even less when they saw Saria heal the remainder of his wounds
almost instantaneously. That night, the
group went to sleep safe, but no longer quite so sure that Chet and Saria were
the simple hunters that they claimed to be.
