Encourage them to follow our lead?
Aren't we the parents who love them?
Praising their every good deed?
Aren't they supposed to come to us?
When their life is problem filled?
Aren't they supposed to turn to us?
Knowing their problems we can shield?
Aren't we supposed to teach them,
Every virtue known to man.
Aren't we supposed to discipline them?
Without ever raising a hand?
Aren't they to look to us for comfort?
When their life turns upside down?
Aren't they supposed to seek our love?
When there is none to be found?
Aren't we to put away our anger?
When they walk through the door?
Aren't we supposed to remember?
What we thank God above for?
Aren't they the only ones that matter?
When this world seems to tear us apart.
Aren't they the ones that come first?
In our lives and in our heart?
Aren't we supposed to count to ten?
Before unleashing our wrath.
Aren't we supposed gather them close?
And appreciate every little laugh?
Aren't they to look back to their childhood?
With loving memories and smile?
Aren't they simply on loan to us?
Don't we just have them a little while?
Aren't we supposed to be the role models?
That our children can always look up to?
Aren't we the loving parents we should be?
When they are feeling blue?
