The Hardest Good-bye

I looked in the mirror and what did I see?
It wasnt the person I wanted to be.

Im filled with hatred, resentment and fear.
I wonder who it is who is standing here.

Im torn by a battle that rages inside;
Torn between love, resentment and pride.

Bittersweet memories that hurt my resolve.
Yet the right thing to do may be the hardest of all.

To forgive and forget - whether to make amends or move on;
To find a way to exit this road that Im on.

The tears have all dried but the pain is so deep
So I must find a way to make that great leap.

With bridges to cross and lessons to learn,
How do I gain the trust I must earn?

A trust that was lost in a bitter dispute
Over a bunch of angry words whose point is now moot.

To find a new dream and pick a new path;
To let go of a friendship that just wouldnt last.

All thats left is the rubble of a battle no one won.
For nothing can mend the damage thats done.

The damage immense and the wounds, oh so deep;
Misunderstood promises that a heart could not keep.

So I must say farewell and try to move on;
To say the hardest good-bye, to a friend who has gone.

Good-bye my dear friend, I will miss you a lot.
I gave it my all and thats all Ive got.
