Yesterday
Today, it is just a game,
Tomorrow more of the same,
Infinity…what a lie!
Smothered by a lonely tear,
The dreams I had will disappear
Uttering a silent cry…
Everything I ever had,
Joyous moments and the bad,
Vanished with the dyeing light,
There is nothing more in sight.
May tomorrow never come…
If I add it up, the final sum,
The things to cherish equal none.
To some, I am in the way.
Others kneel for me in prayer,
And to friends I’m just a fool.
To lovers for a day a jewel,
But to me, a wasted soul,
Clouded are my dreams and foul
And yet, I hope for magic nights
And hearts still pure to show the light…
I’m standing alone in the shade,
Watching today slowly fade
Into cold arms of the night…
I can taste the fear of death
Frozen, listless on my breath,
Growing with the fading light.
There are hopes still in the dark,
Unfulfilled, without a spark,
One by one they’ll slowly die
In the fire of the sky,
For them I shed a lonely tear…
But in my eyes there is no fear,
For I’m aching for yesterday
And every dawn is in the way
Of they joy that will be mine
When the light fades into gray
And I can embrace yesterday
With all it’s love and sheer delight.
How I miss it all tonight!
If I could only choose the night…
