UnNamed
Envy

Diamonds and riches don’t tempt my senses,
Beauty and success leaves me cold,
Dry are the rose petals, floating in trenches…
I so much more value a heart of gold!

I don’t envy anyone’s esteem, position.
I don’t want their friends, their homes so grand,
Let the young have their exploits and liaisons,
The famous their statues forever to stand.

I don’t want moonlight shrouded by clouds,
I’ve no use for rainbows in the sky.
For new life come spring…well, I have my doubts,
And “for ever after” is just a lie.

I cherish the moment, embrace the now.
I’m grateful for love the little I had,
But the hope of it when I see on strange faces,
their joy and their happiness… I envy that…
