"of Terrible Wind and Alien Invaders"

i didn't get much sleep last night...

we had one bitch of a wind storm ripping through the area... we've had just as bad, but yesterday was a long day for both mel and me, and we weren't in the mood for the long night to follow.

this weather is killin' me. i got up yesterday, and the wind was whipping up a fury outside... tree limbs were snapping to and fro, windows weren't just rattling, they were pounding, and garbage cans were making the occasional cement scraping shuffle as they strained to stay upright... when i left for work, i had to hold my hat on my head a few times, but the worst part was all the shit in the air... my allergies were killing me. i could practically see the air i was breathing, chock full of pollens from all the trees and wild grasses growing in the area... funny, from that sentence, you'd think we lived out in the country or something, but we don't... just north of downtown oakland... it's not really that there's a whole hell of a lot of growth either, just that what's there grows pretty rampant... you'd think the people around here have never heard of a lawn mower... anyhoo, i was sniffing and sneezing and wheezing and teary-eyed by the time i set foot in the office door, and then i was trapped here all day. i left to get a drink, and that walk a half a block and back got me sniffling and weeping so bad...

needless to say i was SO happy to walk in the front door when i went home yesterday... until i hit the hellway and living room at nearly 80 degrees =( even if we had air conditioning, i doubt we'd be using it with this whole energy crisis bullshit goin' on... we can not afford to be paying any more than they're already overcharging us for power...

mel had rowing practice last night, so she didn't get home until bedtime... by nightfall, the house had cooled considerably... but that damned wind was still a blowin... and it kept on blowin all night long...

during the night, mel and i awoke from sleep numerous times... the wind was pounding all our windows, and the trash cans outside were tap dancing to the breeze... there were several thumps on the street during the night as trash bins and branches and god knows what else went thumping down to the concrete, exhausted of all effort to remain against the wind... by 2am, some of our windows had unlatched themselves from the rattling and were in full-fledged kaboom mode... mel and i got up, closed all the windows, washed up, and went back to bed... the night was restless... i feel drained.

the wind was blowing so hard and long last night, i swear there was a legion of Cylons (from Battlestar Galactica, remember them?) outside my bedroom window... and i just wanted them to come busting in so i could put an end to the horror... i had visions all night of this invading alien force... of me grabbing the swords from next to the bed, charging across the room and tossing mel a couple of our long knives... of a furious battle, our blades glinting in the moonlight as we hacked and slashed our way to a peaceful slumber... and of finally resting in peace and quiet serenity... no wind... no Cylons... just sleep...

god, i don't want to go through that again tonight...
