"Elvish Baby, Yeah"

last night, one of my childhood dreams semi came true...

growing up, Tolkein's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy were my bible. i practically lived in Middle Earth...

all these years, i've wanted to see a movie of it all... one worthy of the books... and until recently, the technology didn't really exist to bring that world about... maybe Jim Henson could've done it... but unfortunately, we lost him a few years ago...

when i saw Star Wars: Episode One... my full enjoyment of the movie was stifled by one thought: "oh my god... the technology is here... someone could use this and create a realistic middle earth..."

of course, it could only be done by someone as into the books as myself and others... every minute detail would have to be recreated... dress, appearence, landscapes, creatures... languages...

ah, yes... language... i could never get the tongues just right... i always dreamt of hearing the languages as Tolkein intended... as he created... particularly Elvish...

well, last night, that happened. as you may or may not know, the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been in production in New Zealand for a couple years now... all very hush hush... they've shot footage for the entire trilogy with installments to be released once a year beginning this coming winter...

last night, Liv Tyler was on the Conan O'Brien Show. she was there promoting her new movie One Night At McCool's... but she made mention of the LoTR... Conan asked her about that and she talked a little bit about her role as Lady Arwen and as an elf... and said she had to learn a new language...

at this point, i was all shits and giggles... it's getting so close i can see the movie in my head even more vividly than i have for the past 15 years since i first read the books as a child... and then she asked if he wanted to hear one of her lines... and my grin nearly split my head in two... and then she spoke... and it was like a dream come true... there it was... elvish... the words are still flowing in my head, the tones, inflections... Conan made a comment on how it sounded like Gaelic, and it did indeed... Gaelic is perhaps my favorite language on this planet to listen to... of all the places i've been, aside from my actual home, Ireland felt like home to me... but the words coming from liv tyler's mouth last night were even more beautiful... and that was but a few seconds' taste of what is to come.
