"Carry On" films are a truly unique set of comedy movies, which span more than 30 years. Each one lampoons either film genres, historical events, professions, or recreational activities. They range from brilliant wit to satire to vulgar double entendre.
A regular stable of actors and actresses appeared in the films. Many of their names became synonymous with "Carry On," notably: Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Hattie Jacques, Joan Sims, Kenneth Connor, Barbara Windsor, Bernard Bresslaw, Peter Butterworth, and Jim Dale. With sadly few exceptions, these actors and actresses have passed away.

In total, 30 actual "Carry On" films were made, beginning with Carry On Sergeant in 1958 and ending with Carry On Columbus in 1992. There was also a full length compilation film, several television specials, a television series, and live stage shows. Unfortunately, no single film starred all of the actors and acresses that I identify as essential to the "Carry On" chemistry, though some came close.
