While we had everything apart, I decided to paint some of the engine parts to give my engine more of a performance look. I've always been very fond of old cars, especially many of the swingin' rides of the 1960s, so I painted my engine block Ford Blue: |

For the Valve Covers I went with Chrome. I cleaned the valve covers with engine degreaser and laquer thinner, then primed them. I used Dupli-Color Chrome Spray. They look really good. However, I plan on redoing them later for several reasons: Although they're still shiny, the sparkly stuff that give's it a mirror-like chrome finish started rubbing off. I atribute this to the fact that we painted them in 40F degree weather, and that we didn't allow propper time to dry. Next time I will paint them at 70F degrees and let them dry for ten days. Then I will put one or two coats of clear laquer over them. I got another set out at the wrecking yard to practice on this summer. |

We painted the Exhaust Manifolds with Dupli-Color High Heat Aluminum Paint w/Ceramic. After they were dry to the touch, we cured them for two hours at 300 degrees. Supposedly, by curing them at high temperature, they will withstand temperatures up to 1200 degrees along with elements such as rust, salt, water..etc... |
