Hit Clips entered the toy/music scene in the summer of 2000. There was a huge marketing blitz with these including tie-ins with McDonalds and Oscar Mayer Lunchables. It appears as though the marketing paid off since they seem to be selling well. Hit Clips were back ordered on the "Toys R Us" web site in March, 2001. I bought some of the Hit Clips and compared them to Pocket Rockers (which was a mini tape player from the 1980's.
I was pretty excited to see Hit Clips arrive, they are the closest thing to Pocket Rockers in a very long time. Check out the Tiger Electronic Hit Clips Site for examples of what's available. As of 2004, there are now over 150 songs! Their web site is much better than it used to be and has tons of info on Hit Clips. They have long eclipsed the popularity of Pocket Rockers and there still isn't a sign of these things slowing down.
Here's what there is available with hit clips.
Hit Clips Clips. They are about the size of a postage
stamp and contain "about" a minute's worth of music. The one that comes
with the Yahoo Downloader will fit 2 minutes of music. Why Tiger didn't
make them all two minutes long I have no idea. Here is a list of what was available when Hit Clips first came out. There are many, many new titles since then.

Boombox. This is probably the most popular and easiest way to listen to Hit Clips. It comes in Red, Blue and Silver and fits in your pocket. The player looks pretty slick and you can view the hit clip while it's playing. The handle on the boombox player I got falls off pretty easily. The good news is that the boombox takes 1 AAA battery and I have played mine for probably hours and I have yet to wear out the battery. However, there isn't any volume control on the Boombox. This is unfortunate because I have a hard time listening to the clips multiple times because of the lack of volume control. The other accessories are a very tiny player with a headphone, and an alarm clock. One must is to try to get a hold of the FM radio receiver for the boombox or the headphone player. It is just a little bigger than the Hit Clips and works great. It plugs right into the boombox and plays the radio. Not stereo, but a great addition to the portability of the player. In 2001, new devices were added, including a phone and a "Groove Machine" The Groove Machine does have two settings for volume control which is nice. However, I have heard that the isn't too much difference between the high and low volume. As slick as all the Hit Clips are, Pocket Rockers had longer songs and better sounding tunes. There are a whole bunch of players/groove machines etc. etc that have been added over the past three years.
