Wrestlers Background: Being raised in the wrestling industry Dan Smith traveled with his father Grizzly Smith who went by the name The Grizzly Bear. His father died in a freak accident when Dan was 7 years old leaving Dan alone to tend for himself. A friend of his father Bruno Sammartino was awarded custody of Dan. Bruno started to train Dan at a very young age of 8. He was quick to learn. At the age of 10 he was executing Moonsaults, Huricanrannas, Frog Splashes, and he was physically very strong for his age. Growing up was tough for Dan. Bruno was always traveling which meant that so did Dan. He moved from school to school, town to town. He never had many friends. He started to get into sports. Bruno decided that it was time for him to settle down. They moved to Battle Creek Michigan where Dan would remain until the age of 19. In school Dan made lots of friends. He also found three loves, a woman by the name of Sara, Sports and Professional Wrestling. He tried soccer and didn’t like it. He tried golf and the same result. He was invited to play football and go to an open gym for basketball. After the first practices Dan new what he was to do. Play Basketball and Football. But his love life kept calling him. He worked up the guts to ask Sara to the Homecoming and she said yes. Dan was happy. It was his sophomore year; he was playing football and basketball, and was very much in love. He forgot about wrestling. That year was the best year of his life. He was an All-American in both basketball and football helping Battle Creek High School to win a Division II State Football Title and a Division I State Basketball title. He also was falling deeper and deeper in love with Sara. One late summer night in 1996 Dan ripped his ACL and his sports career was finished. Dan was devastated. But he still had Sara. But he had that call in him that calls to pursue a career in professional wrestling. He started training again with Bruno and by the time Dan was a senior in High School he could do any wrestling maneuver that you could think of. He was a little too strong at times and accidentally broke 2 of Bruno’s ribs executing a Swanton Bomb. Dan graduated from Battle Creek High School 2nd in his class Sara was 1st. Sara was going to Harvard and Dan was going to UCLA. But something happened that would change Dan’s life forever. Sara was pregnant. Sara decided to change schools and Dan also realized that he needed to find a career. So Dan and Sara both decided to go to Portland State University. Sara excelled well in college. She graduated 2 years early. Dan graduated in 2002. During college Dan wrestled in his spare time. He did a dark match for the WWE but they couldn’t find a place for him. So they told him about The PNW. He decided that the PNW was where he needed to be. It was close to home so he can be with his beautiful daughter Elizabeth.
