Sunday Night Showdown
Christian Lockheart vs. Dragonwulf
Even match showcasing the talents of both superstars in the match-up. Dragonwulf tries to use quite a few power moves to ground the crafty flyer, Christian Lockheart. Lockheart uses every move in his arsenal to try and take the big man off his feet, but to no avail as every time he starts rocking Dragonwulf; he comes back with a power move to take down Lockheart. Lockheart gets beat down for almost the entire match, with spots of advantage thrown in here and there. Lockheart finally gives Dragonwulf a “Sinners Shot” palm strike, reeling the big man before also hitting a “So-Cal Stunner” Osaka Street Cutter and then following that up with a “So-Cal Hurricane” springboard hurricanarana for the three-count. Dragonwulf barely gets held down for the count and kicks out after the three; Lockheart scrambles to get out of the ring and up the ramp before Dragonwulf comes after him. Dragonwulf stands in the ring, visibly upset as Lockheart runs up the ramp, before the screen goes to commercial.
Steve Studd vs. Misty Xiao - PNW TV title match
Lots of action in this contest with Xiao using Studd’s momentum against him and Studd using size and strength over Xiao’s small form. Studd appeared many times to have Xiao under control, only to be countered by a leverage maneuver or some other counter. Studd had many problems with the quickness and agility of Xiao, as well as her vast knowledge of counter wrestling. He worked very hard in the match, hanging on for dear life at times to retain his TV title. The end came when Studd whips Misty into the ropes and throws her over with a backdrop, but Misty lands on her feet. Studd turns around to follow up his move, and Misty uses that opportunity to hit the "Hello Kitty". She goes for the pin, but Studd gets his foot on the ropes at two. Misty drops a leg across his head to keep him down, then runs to the ropes and goes for the lionsault... but Studd rolls out of the way, and Misty hits the canvas. Studd picks Misty up and sets her up for his "Trip to the Grave" reverse DVD finisher -- but as he executes the move, she flips ooff of his shoulders and lands on her feet. As Studd gets up, Misty sprays him in the face with red mist. Blinded, Studd stumbles around, as Misty slips out onto the apron. She springboards off the top rope and nails him with the "My Little Pony" for the three-count.
Post match, Studd is held down by the SoE and receives a trout slap, after a Skipper “Ships Ahoy” Bearhug Slam. Awesome comes out onto the ramp and smiles as the SoE celebrates in the ring, with Awesome laughing at Studd’s misfortune as the TV show goes to commercial.
Jake Primal vs. Mike Smith
Primal versus Smith is one of those matches that lets you know the PNW has great young talent ready to step up and deliver on any given night. This match was a great example of the young blood in the WWA and PNW, as well as pitting one-half of the PNW Tag Team champions against a protégé of Alex Renge, a man known for training a couple high-quality talented PNW-ers. This match was everything you would expect from two young, strong wrestlers and was filled with action from bell-to-bell. Primal took the early advantage with some great moves, such as a DDT and a belly-to-belly suplex, before conceding the advantage to Mike Smith for a time. Mike Smith took Primal down with a double leg and then following it up with a series of left hand punches and a release German suplex. They then traded punches back and forth, before trading moves back and forth. Smith then gained the upper hand once again and looked to have the match in the bag until Tim Johnson’s music hits and he walks out onto the entry ramp. Smith turns to see Johnson walking to the ring and starts yelling at him to get back up the ramp, Johnson just continues walking down to the ring. Smith is so concerned about Johnson that he misses Primal walking up behind him and gets rolled up, but kicks out at two and a half this time. Smith is irate and moves to the outside, with Primal holding up the ref, trash-talking Johnson as they stand nose-to-nose. Johnson hits Smith in the face with a right and then picks him up to his feet before leveling him with a Judgment Slam. He then rolls Smith back in the ring, where Primal picks him up and delivers the “Primal Urge” to finish off Smith for the 1-2-3!
Wrec Hannibal vs. “The Wizard” Bryan Smith - Winner gets a shot at the PNW Oregon State title, Loser gets a Hardcore/TV title shot based on his choice
Back and forth match that could not possibly be described in words; you would have to see it to believe it. Neither man seemed to have an advantage with both men using hold and counter hold grappling, the crowd was on its feet for the entire match, and it was a long one. It was electric in the ring and outside the ring, with both performers putting on the match of their lives and electrifying the crowd. The finish of the match saw plenty of finishers as Wizard used both his “Wizardton Bomb” swanton bomb and his “Fatal Drop” swinging diamond cutter, as well as Wrec using his “Broke the Silence” frog splash and “Hell From Above” top rope somersault leg drop to try and get victories, but non of them being enough. Finally, Wrec hit another “Broke the Silence” frog splash onto Wizard’s back and then lock on the “Gates of Hell” elevated Boston crab. Wizard was screaming in pain, but would not give in to the submission finisher. Finally, the bell rings and the out from behind the curtain, stepping out to the entry ramp is...the PNW Owner, Sean Awesome. The crowd is hot, expecting a screw job ending, but they get a big surprise as Awesome allows the announcer to announce the ending of a time limit draw. Both men look surprised but shake each other’s hand, as Awesome just stands on the ramp.
Post match: Awesome’s voice is heard all over the arena and the camera moves up to him. He claims that the match we have just seen was both entertaining and everything he had expected it to be when HE booked it. You see, Fox is nowhere to be found in the building, nor has he been seen in the office these past few days. He may be sick, or he may just be dead, Awesome claims that he doesn’t really care either way. The crowd is chanting for 5 more minutes, but Awesome says that there will be none of that here tonight. The crowd wanted a winner, he knows and a winner and loser were both needed to complete title matches. So he is doing both competitors a favor and one better than Fox could EVER do! So he has an announcement regarding the match and the title shots, and that is...they BOTH get the PNW Oregon State title shot at the card he is authorizing and booking. As for details regarding that though, he says, you will ALL have to WAIT and see! And he drops the mic and returns behind the curtain, prompting both men in the ring to look strangely at each other and then back away from each other. They then slide out opposite sides of the ring and walk up the ramp, one after the other, as Sunday Night Showdown goes to a commercial.
Ulfric vs. “Shooter” Jason Lockhart - PNW Heavyweight title match
Another top quality match and top quality classic main event in the PNW’s history with Ulric and Lockhart delivering a match that everyone could be proud of, even the two owners of the PNW! They traded offensive and defensive maneuvers the whole match with both men trying to get the better of the other. Lockhart finally got the upper hand nailing Ulfric with a huge single leg powerbomb and running DVD, but Ulfric took the punishment and dished out a bit of his own, then taking the advantage and hammerlock bodyslam and swinging single arm DDT. The crowd was torn between which wrestler should be cheered and jeered, switching sides all night long, just like the two men in the ring did. Each wrestler took their turns with cheap shots and digging into each other’s playbook to try and put the other one away. Both men gave the match their all and were rewarded by a crowded arena on their feet and chanting the names of both competitors. They traded not only counters and signature maneuvers, but also submission hold and technical moves. Nothing was held back and each man tried every style of wrestling they could to win, from brawling to submission and even to a few aerial maneuvers. The finish came when Lockhart had Ulfric locked in the Lockhart Lock and Ulfric refused to tap out, despite the obvious pain of the hold he was enduring. He looked to go out a few times and looked even more likely to tap out a few times, but held his ground and eventually got to the ropes, forcing the hold to be broken. He got up worse for wear out of the hold, but then managed to trap Lockhart in the Crippler Crossface, to which he subjected Lockhart to the same treatment he had undergone. Lockhart also stood his ground and wouldn’t even think about tapping, which only led to more anguish for the former amateur wrestling great. He finally managed a foot on the bottom rope and get his own rope break to save the day for him. Ulfric then went for “The Embrace” but it was blocked by Lockhart before he even really got the hold locked on, which prompted Lockhart to go for his one of his own finishers, “The Complete Shoot.” Lockhart hit the move and went for the pin only to have Ulfric kick out just before the three. Lockhart was beginning to wonder what he could do to put Ulfric away and the thought was evident by the look of frustration on his face. He did however manage to get the strength for one last move and he hoisted Ulfric across his shoulder for it. He spun Ulfric out of the fireman’s carry into an F-5, but hooked the leg and ended it with more of a very powerful DDT on Ulfric, as Lockhart had hit his rarely used, last ditch finisher the “Gold Medal Winner.” He covered the lifeless Ulfric and pinned Ulfric for his PNW Heavyweight championship belt and the first loss by Ulfric for the title since he won it in July.
Post match, Lockhart celebrated his PNW title win in the ring as officials came in with water and smelling salts to revive the now former PNW champion. Ulfric finally got up, and still groggy from the effects of the move, extended his hand to Lockhart, who graciously took it and offered up a hug to the former champ before raising his hand and showing solidarity among the two PNW wrestlers as other wrestlers from the back poured in to congratulate Lockhart as the new PNW champ and both men for their tremendous match. Ulfric then raised the hand of Lockhart and then took turns raising each other’s hands until the all too familiar music of the PNW Owner, Sean Awesome, hit over the arena. He came out clapping his hands and mocking the new PNW champion, before tapping his mic three times to make sure it was on to the crowd and all the men in the ring. He congratulated Lockhart on reaching the top of the PNW, winning its Heavyweight title and making an impact as the “Franchise player” of the PNW. He commented on who Lockhart had worked hard and made it to the top, beating its first signee WAY back in April before Awesome had gotten there. He said if he had been there, Lockhart would have never made the roster and would still be working in the Sunshine State right now, but Fox was soft and signed you to a contract and here they were, staring out at each other on what was without a doubt Lockhart’s greatest career moment to date. Awesome then cracks a smile as he says that he was doing his homework the other day, going over some paperwork and watching TV, when what to his wandering eyes should appear but a Lockhart promo. However, this was not on a PNW TV show, nor was it on a WWA TV show, but rather an NWA TV show! He had then decided that Lockhart’s “extra-curricular” activities were getting to be too much and was forced to do something he hated to do. He told Lockhart that he was suspended from active duty on the PNW’s card and that; since he couldn’t defend the title while inactive, he was going to be STRIPPED of the PNW Heavyweight title that he loved so much. Awesome then said that he knew Lockhart worked hard to get to where he was and would no doubt be there again someday, but not on his watch, and since Fox is gone there was nothing Lockhart could do about it. He then said that he could think of a way for Lockhart to keep his job and title, but Lockhart would have to join him right this moment and be on Team Awesome to maintain his status in the PNW. Lockhart looked to be thinking about it, but then got a mic himself and said “Never in a million years, A$$hole!” Awesome just smiled and said that he thought Lockhart would reject him so he was expecting Lockhart to march right up to him and hand him the title OR be escorted out of the building and have Awesome TAKE the title from him! Lockhart looks down at the title around his waist and slowly climbs out of the ring and walks towards the PNW owner, amidst the boos of the crowd and their pleads for him not to go and not to turn the title over to Awesome. He unstraps the title from his waist, kisses the golden faceplate and looks like he will hand him the title as Awesome smiles at the crowd looking on, but then Lockhart drills him in the face with the belt and locks the Lockhart Lock on Awesome himself! Awesome is screaming and tapping out as security tears him off of Awesome and take him out of the arena. Some PNW officials help Awesome to his feet as he yells at Lockhart, who is being taken away by security but trying to fight away from their grip, much to the approval of the fans in attendance and the wrestlers in the ring.
Awesome then states that the PNW will be getting a week’s break to figure themselves out, and all the new changes that will be taking place as he puts together his very own “Night of Champions” card for the PNW wrestlers and fans. Next week on this very station, on HIS show, he will air a “Best of the PNW” which will showcase the highlights of the past couple of months in the PNW and on which he will release HIS card to everyone! It will feature all or almost all of the PNW roster and will definitely bury Fox, whenever his sorry a$$ might be. He then laughs and says, “Have a nice break” to the wrestlers in the ring and to the cameras, while strapping the PNW Heavyweight title around his own waist and posing with the title and smiling as the screen fades to the PNW logo and then to black.
