The PNW Kiwanis Foundation has a limited amount of
funding available each year for general grants. An application form can be found on the Publications page.
Below you will find a list of some of the grants
awarded by the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation. The Foundation relies on support from
members like you to increase its support for programs benefiting children and
youth in the Pacific Northwest.
Note: The
Kiwanis year runs from October 1 to September 30. The Foundation is not responsible for any

Doernbecher
Phase I Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Clinical Trial Program
*
Conditional on funds being matched by the Kiwanis International Foundation
for a total value of $10,000.
Sponsor: Kiwanis Club of Portland
Purpose: To develop new therapies for childhood cancer that will increase survivability
and reduce long-term disability resulting from existing treatments.
Other Notes: Pacific Northwest Kiwanis clubs have long supported the
work of the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation; clubs in Oregon and
southwestern Washington state led the campaign to build the first and only
pediatric bone marrow/stem cell transplant unit in the region in 1991. Kiwanis clubs have sponsored the
Children’s Cancer Fellowship Program at Doernbecher since 1999, training
the next generation of cancer specialists.

Boyer
Children’s Clinic Early Childhood Development Program
Sponsor: Kiwanis Club of North Central Seattle, Washington
Purpose: To provide children with special needs the necessary skills to
achieve their highest potential regardless of their family’s ability to pay
for their therapy and educational programs.
Other Notes: The Boyer Children’s Clinic provides services to children from
birth to teen years that have neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral
palsey or delay in development.

Safety
Town
Sponsor: Kiwanis Club of Springfield, Oregon
Purpose: To provide safety education over two weeks for 100 five-year-olds;
the safety education including information about water, bicycles,
strangers, poison, animals, fire, and police. To provide leadership skills for 35-50
teens, including members of Key Club, who assist in the training.

Sound Reading Foundation Book Van
Sponsor: Kiwanis clubs of Division 38, Washington
Purpose: To assist the local Reading Foundation to sponsor a cargo van book
van that will be used to reach out to kids in local schools, day cares, and
community events, providing them free of charge with donated new and used
books.

Idaho College Sandpoint Head Start Program
Sponsor: Kiwanis Club of Sandpoint, Idaho
Purpose: To build a new playground structure for children’s gross motor and
social development, as part of a program to provide quality, comprehensive
services that enable families with limited resources to nurture and support
their own and their young children’s educational, social, emotional, and
physical development.

Purpose: To produce banner patches to award to Builders Clubs in the Pacific

Oregon Camp Kiwanis
Sponsor: Governor-Elect Dick Mayer of Federal Way, Washington
Purpose: To expand the number of children attending this camp for
physically-challenged children 14-21 years old.

Kiwanis
Family Against Drunk Driving
Sponsor: KFADD Chair Sylvester Neal of Auburn, Washington
Purpose: To print 100 KFADD T-shirts featuring designs by K-Kids and
Builders Club members to promote education and awareness about drinking and
driving.
Other Notes: Kiwanis youth members have
been just some of the many children injured or killed each year by drunk
drivers. One of the Pacific
Northwest Kiwanis Foundation’s scholarships for Circle K is awarded
annually in the name of Patrick Maloney, a member of the Pacific University
Circle K Club who was en route to the 1988 District Convention when he was
killed by a drunk-driver.
