| --history lesson-- One of the Decembrist' houses. The Decembrists were political exiles, famous for their contribution in Russian history. Through their compulsary (slave)work they integrated with the 'normal people'. They integrated in such a way that professional knowledge about a developed society was spread quickly. Things like irregation and basic economical arrangements were set-up. Also cultural values and arts were introduced through the exiled political prisoners. The Decembrists, being prisoners in their own country have contributed immensly to the development of remote places in Russia, like Siberia. |

| Due to the cold in Russia, almost all vendors on the street have their windows full of cheap products and no entrance. To buy something I had to knock on a small window in the front of the 'shop' and tell the person in Russian what I wanted. Must say it stimulates language knowledge. I can now read and speak Russian.....I only have no clue what I am saying :-) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The only Decembrist house that has been turned into a museum. The Trubetskoy House. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My hostel in Irkutsk. On the back of a building, this clear entrance to the hostel can be found. Especially the blood-red description "HOSTEL" on the wall gives you a comfy feeling. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
