| Have you had a Heart Attack yet?
If not, count yourself lucky. Heart Disease is the number one killer of
ALL men and women in the WORLD. What is EECP®? It stands for Enhanced
External Counterpulsation, and is the registered trademark of Vasomedical
(Ticker-VASO), the company providing the equipment for treatment. EECP®
is an exciting state-of-the-art technology that is a safe, NON-Invasive
method that improves circulation to the vital organs (heart, brain, kidneys,
etc.) and its benefits can be maintained for 4-7 years after the therapeutic
program. Until recently, the predominant treatment for ischemic heart disease
was open heart bypass surgery. This treatment is costly, invasive, and
associated with complications (including blood clots, infection and a 4%
mortality rate). In addition, the health benefits of this surgical procedure
are often temporary. EECP® treatment promotes the development of collateral
blood vessels (blood vessels that develop along side or parallel to blocked
or injured blood vessels) and forms what is known as a “Natural Bypass”.
In 1996, heart failure caused 43,837 deaths; women accounted for a larger
proportion (62%) than men (38%). A 1997 study of 29,000 patients with heart
failure reported an average cost of almost $11,000 per patient per hospitalization.
The standard charge assigned by HCFA for EECP® treatment is $4,450.00
and again, benefits can be maintained for 4-7 years after the therapeutic
program. It is up to your Cardiologist to decide if you are eligible for
the treatment, but the final decision is up to YOU. Please read the information
provided on this site, and pass it along to everyone you know. Educate
yourself about the procedure. It could save and/or prolong your life. This
procedure is sweeping the nation, in addition to sites outside the US.
More than $56 billion is spent annually on the treatment and management
of heart failure, 70% of which covers the hospitalization of patients.
There is a need to develop innovative solutions to keep this growing population
out of the hospital and to improve the overall management of the patients.
Success in this endeavor will have a beneficial impact on our entire health
care system. Ask your doctor. Thanks-Pnew |
