This voluntary support group originally started in 2001 by Australian mums living in Singapore. They had suffered post natal depression and were recovering but recognised the need for sufferers to have practical help, advice and emotional support. The group is organised by mothers who have had post natal depression, health professionals and students in the health field.
Our aim is to bring support to new mothers who are experiencing baby blues or post natal depression by sharing information and experiences and helping them to understand what they are going through. Through meetings, telephone contact or home visits we offer caring support, encouragement and education. This group recognises there is a need to further disseminate information about post natal depression in Singapore so others do not suffer alone or in silence. There is no shame, and there should not be any guilt. We hope to help reduce the damaging effects on relationships and family, and bring better community acceptance and understanding of this illness. |
