Abrahams birth date is derived from the 1850 census. He is listed there
as being 41 years old as of June 1, 1850. A hand written note from my
father, Abram Norman Dennis Jr., notes that his great grandfather was
Abram Dennis, and other brothers were Adrian and Adam. This note was
from a conversation with Raymond Miller Dennis Sr. From this note, and
the 1850 census data, it was determined that Abraham and Margaret Dennis
of the 1850 census in Lancaster County, PA are the earliest ancestors of
our Dennis Family that we have found thus far.
Abraham married Margaret McCloskey on April 18th 1832. It was announced as follows in the Lancaster Examiner on April 5th: "On the 18th Abraham Dennis to Miss Margaret McClosky, both of Lampeter". Abraham and Margaret lived in Bart Township, Lancaster Co. in 1850. They had six(6) children: Adren 17, Mary 15, Elizabeth 14, Abraham 11, Adam 6 and Christian 3. Adren, Abraham and Adam were sons, Mary, Elizabeth and Christian were daughters. Abraham left his wife and children, moved out west and was not heard from again. Another note from my father notes that Abraham is buried somewhere in northwest Colorado. My grandfather, Abram Norman Dennis Sr., told this story (among others) to me in June 1997, one week before he died. As of this time, I have been unable to determine any descendents of Abraham and Margarets daughters, Mary, Elizabeth and Christian.
