Joseph Groff
  [zulu7.ged]

New informationsent by David W. Utter and Charles C. Masser has helped to clarity the Montgomery County Groff families. Apparently Joseph Groff ( MM, was MOF-A) was the grandfather, not the father of Joseph Groff ( MM14, was MOG-A) , and Jacob Groff (MM1, was MOG-B) was his son. "Swamp John Groff (P) may have been an additional son of Joseph Groff (MM).
Christian Groff (I and?GR3111) first settled in Salford Twp. now in Montgomer County, and in 1749 Purchase land in Lancaster County, and in 1749 purchased land in Lancaster County. If Joseph Groff (MM and ?GR3112) were his brother, then Michael Groff (O) and "Swamp" John Groff (P) who settled on neighboring tracts of land, would have been first cousins. They may have been second cousins of Jacob Groff (?GR3122 and N), who also lived on a neighboring tract.
These three families often intermarried in the early generations in Pennsylvania, as did many other
closely related Swiss-German families at that time.

European Origins
On February 8, 1681, Hans Jakob Graf from Baretswil, Zurich, a son of the late Hans Graf, an Anabaptist, was married at the Rauhenhoff to Barbara Ruth, daughter of Hans Ruth, an Anabaptist citizen at Weiler, Germany. This Hans Jakob Graf was probably (GR311), and could have been an older brother of Hans Groff (B and ?GR312). He may have been the father of Johann Christian Graf (I( and Joseph Groff (MM, was MOG-A).[sus_kendig.ged]
