2007 Modano Mi Hermano Draft Recap

Round 1
1. Carson Palmer, Cin QB P-Miss Envy
2. Laurence Maroney, NE RB Red Herrings
3. Thomas Jones, NYJ RB County Coroners
4. Tom Brady, NE QB Weaselicious Cookies
5. Ronnie Brown, Mia RB Syracuse 44's
6. Steve Smith, Car WR Peaks Island Wookies
7. Marvin Harrison, Ind WR San Francisco Cubists
8. Torry Holt, StL WR The Bull City
9. Terrell Owens, Dal WR The Ballbusters
10. Donovan McNabb, Phi QB Brentless Brents

The draft got off to an unusual start as Owner Perry Missner stepped to the podium for the first time with the first pick of the draft. He had his running back crew mostly set, so he looked for someone to hand off to them. There were plenty of choices, but no one could argue with Carson Palmer, who has both the stats (11/151 in 2006) and a championship pedigree, having been the first pick of the Brents a year ago. Owner Charlie Mitchell, attending his first Modano draft, went with a hometown favorite in RB Laurence Maroney (11/92), who not surprisingly has a similar pedigree to Palmer and was the college supplementary pick of Brentless in 2006. The pick excited Mitchell who said, “I'm planning to buy a Maroney jersey to alternate with my Seymour.” Former Brents are the first two picks. Owner Chad Nuss only kept one runner, so he needed to restock the RB shelves. He did so by tabbing Thomas Jones (11/83), a 2006 Envy member. Jones also moved the Jets, where he should not have to compete with anyone for carries. After the draft, Nuss said he was happiest to have Jones aboard of all of his picks. Owner Dan Weitz agonized over his first pick because he had hoped that Jones would fall to him. Believing that a good QB is the best way to overcome years and years of Arizona Cardinal like history, Weitz tabbed Tom Brady with his first pick and then said he hated Brady’s guts. Brady, who available via videoconference, immediately said he echoed the feelings and was sorry to be back with Cookies who played with from 2002-2004. Amber quickly tried to intercede, but a commercial for High School Musical 2 came on the TV and she lost her train of thought. It should be another interesting season in Weaselicious. The pick did make the Cubists and Wookies unhappy because they liked the cut of Brady’s jib. Owner John Stoer made a fairly surprising pick. After mentioning to many media outlets that he was looking at one of the top receivers, he chose Ronnie Brown, the disappointing first pick of the 2006 draft by the Coroners. Brown did not play so poorly (11/85), but was undone by the expectations of being the top pick. Did you hear that, Carson? Owner Will Mitchell was unavailable to attend the draft but sent along special (i.e. minimal) instructions on how to proceed. He mentioned something about a life-altering event taking place on the same evening, so speculation ran rampant on what that event might be. The earliest reports had him joining a seminary in Azerbaijan, but we’ll keep tabs on the report wire for this developing story. A select committee of fantasy veterans, draft gurus, and distracted pre-teens was commissioned to carry out the Wookies draft. They selected Steve Smith as the best available player. Mitchell later said (possibly from Azerbaijan) the pick was good. Smith, Roy Williams, and Calvin Johnson do make an imposing receiver trio. Speaking of which, Owner Jason Moore added to his receiver core of Larry Fitzgerald and Chad Johnson by drafting Marvin Harrison. It was the first time Harrison had been unkept since 2000, so Moore was visibly excited. It came as a surprise to no one that Owner Randy Chambers brought back Torry Holt, a Bull City keeper from 2006. With Owner Rich Joseph in the win, the committee was sought for another pick. They looked at their draft board, thought it would be funny to stick Joseph with Terrell Owens, and made the pick. Owens and Peyton Manning happen to be two of Joseph’s most favorite players and he will enjoying rooting for them week in and week out. With potentially one of the best running back keeper crews in Modano history (three backs generally all rated in the top five or six), Owner Steve Johnson took care of the QB spot by taking Donovan McNabb. Like Harrison, McNabb was available for the first time since 2000 (when the Modano league started using keepers). The Eagle QB burdened a heavy load in Weaselicious the last two years and his knee finally snapped midway through 2006. Johnson has bought plenty of massaging oil to keep his new QB (who happens not to like the teamname and has lobbied Johnson to change it to the McNabbful McNabbs) available.

Round 2
11. Reggie Wayne, Ind WR P-Miss Envy
12. Anquan Boldin, Ari WR Red Herrings
13. Brandon Jacobs, NYG RB County Coroners
14. Chris Henry, Ten RB Weaselicious Cookies
15. Adrian Peterson, Min RB Syracuse 44's
16. Randy Moss, NE WR Peaks Island Wookies
17. Jerious Norwood, Atl RB San Francisco Cubists
18. Marques Colston, NO WR The Bull City
19. Javon Walker, Den WR The Ballbusters
20. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cin WR Brentless Brents

With the QB and RB slots filled, Missner decided it was time for another offensive gamebreaker just to keep opposing defenses honest. He looked at the remaining candidates and took the one with U pedigree – Reggie Wayne. Wayne had been a first round pick the last two years (of the Blatz in 2006 and Cubists in 2005) and was the second highest scoring wideout (16/137) in 2006. The Herrings followed suit as Charlie took Anquan Boldin, who was a first round pick of the Busters last year. Boldin has never fell past the second round after being kept as an undrafted rookie by the Coroners in 2004. Last year, the Cardinal WR had consistent playing time (16/104). Speaking of the County, Nuss continued to stockpile RB’s with Brandon Jacobs, the heir apparent to Tiki Barber (a former Coroner keeper). Nuss seems to have a New York connection. Jacobs was the first player to be selected who had never been drafted before. He did appear in games with the 44’s and Brents but scored minimally (2/6). He has a lot of potential, which is something that Weitz saw in his next pick, Chris Henry of the Titans. Henry was the first rookie selected and seems to be in the mix to get touches in Tennessee. It would not be an untruth to call the pick a reach, especially as the next pick was the first college supplementary pick off the board, Adrian Peterson of the Vikings to Syracuse. Stoer has long admired the brutish running style of the other AP. The committee looked at their chart and hope that the rumors that Will Mitchell’s life altering experience was not a robbing at gunpoint in which Mitchell lost $12 and a pocket full of Jelly Bellies. While that experience would have made Mitchell sad, the drafting of new Patriot deep threat Randy Moss very, very happy. Like Harrison and McNabb, this was the first time that Moss was available for good reason – he was a bust for the 44’s in 2006 (6/38). Maybe being a Wookie will rejuvenate the former fantasy factor. Moore was P.O.’ed that all of the good RB’s had been taken off the board, so he took a flyer on Jarious Norwood, the part timer in Atlanta. Chambers thought Moore had selected the former Buffalo Bill kicker, but that’s just silly. Chambers was up next and he wanted to make sure he took his QB’s favorite target, so he went outside the Bull City box and took Marques Colston, the TE/WR from the Brents. Colston is limited to just WR play in 2007, but his fine 2006 numbers (11/91) should make him a good play. The committee selected Javon Walker for the Busters. It seemed like a good pick at the time. Johnson finished Round Two up by taking Bengal WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a 2005 Brent selectee. Houshmandzadeh spent 2006 with the Busters and played well (11/79).

Round 3
21. Marshawn Lynch, Buf RB P-Miss Envy
22. Andre Johnson, Hou WR Red Herrings
23. Tony Gonzalez, KC TE County Coroners
24. DeAngelo Williams, Car RB Weaselicious Cookies
25. Carnell Williams, TB RB Syracuse 44's
26. Jamal Lewis, Cle RB Peaks Island Wookies
27. Brandon Jackson, GB RB San Francisco Cubists
28. Hines Ward, Pit WR The Bull City
29. Ahman Green, Hou RB The Ballbusters
30. Todd Heap, Bal TE Brentless Brents

As had been pre-arranged, the Envy started Round Three with their college supplementary selection of Marshawn Lynch. Draft wonks made Missner sweat out the summer as nearly every one had Lynch going to Green Bay, but none of them counted on the wisdom of Marv Levy, who snatched Lynch up to replace now Envy teammate Willis McGahee. The Herrings filled their 2nd WR position with another A-guy, Andre Johnson. The former ‘Cane was drafted by the Cookies in each of the last two seasons and was pretty good last year (16/105). Nuss finally got his hands on a player he has long coveted, Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez. The four-time keeper had spent the last four years on the Busters, winning a championship in one of them. Last year, Gonzalez started slow but ended up with a decent season (12/82). Weitz continued his RB rampage by taking Panther second year player DeAngelo Williams. Williams lined up for the 44’s in 2006, after being selected in the fourth round. Although he played only sparingly, when he got a start, he played well (2/21). Knowing the Way of Weitz is the way to go somewhere, Stoer followed the third Cookie RB selection with the 44’s third RB selection: Carnell Williams. He hopes that putting Williams and Ronnie Brown together again will help them recapture some of their lost Auburn magic. Cadillac was a Coroner keeper in 2006 and big, stinky disappointment (16/54). The committee selected the big and sometimes stinky Jamal Lewis for the Wookies. Lewis spent some time on Peaks Island in 2006 after being traded from Syracuse. He was surprisingly effective (13/106). Let’s hope Mitchell’s life-altering experience was not eating a good turkey sandwich for the first time. Cursing another RB run, Moore made another lame attempt at getting a ground attack by taking a complete flyer on concussed Packer RB Brandon Jackson. Let’s hope Jackson doesn’t bite on the fake Farf handoff. Chambers went back to the well in Round Three with Hines Ward, who fits his team like an old pair of jeans. Ward spent all of the last two seasons in Bull City and played in most of the games last year (14/96). Joseph agreed to select Ahole “Put it on the” Green, a fifth round selection of the team in 2006. Green was average in 2006 (14/106), but he is reunited with his old coach, Mike Sherman in Texas. I am sure that will be great. Johnson followed his 2006 path to greatness by selecting Todd Heap in the third round for the second consecutive year. Heap would have played more in 2006 if it weren’t for the emergence of Marques Colston.

Round 4
31. Lee Evans Buf, WR P-Miss Envy
32. Jason Taylor, Mia DL Red Herrings
33. Vincent Jackson, SD WR County Coroners
34. Julius Jones, Dal RB Weaselicious Cookies
35. Plexico Burress, NYG WR Syracuse 44's
36. Jon Kitna, Det QB Peaks Island Wookies
37. DeMarco Ryans, Hou LB San Francisco Cubists
38. Philip Rivers, SD QB The Bull City
39. Donald Driver, GB WR The Ballbusters
40. LaDell Betts, Was RB Brentless Brents

With a better feeling on his team than he had had in a long time, Missner decided to take a risk. Rather than following his plan, he took a flyer on a flyer from Wisconsin, the Bills’ Lee Evans. Evans appeared in games for both the Brents and Blatz/Horde in 2006 and was ok (5/31). He did have some big games from the bench. The Herrings decided to keep their focus on defense by adding Jason Taylor to Shawn Merriman. Charlie is going to have opposing QB’s running for their lives. Taylor played for the both the Busters and Brents in 2006 and had a very good season (13/128). Nuss took a complete flyer on Vincent Jackson, a large WR from the Chargers who appeared in a game for the 44’s last year (1/7). Nuss seems to have a thing for NFC West rival players. At the risk of repeating myself, the Cookies drafted a RB. Even Amber said, “Not again, Dad?!?” as Weitz took Julius Jones, just in case Marion Barber isn’t the keeper he thought he was. Some people have said that Weitz has a one-track mind and that may be the case. The Cookies won’t be hurting for part-time RB’s. Breaking the RB log jam in the middle of the round, Stoer took Plexico Burress from his hated NY Giants. Burress was the main receiver for the Wookies in 2006 (12/96). Knowing that Lions and Wookies are basically the same, the committee selected QB Jon Kitna for Peaks Island. Owning Kitna again might a life-altering experience akin to seeing Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance. Amazingly, this was the first time that Kitna had been drafted since 2000 when he was a fourth round pick of Einar’s Lovable Losers. With the hearts being broken, Moore considered his defensive options and came up with DeMarco Ryans (after wisely deciding not to select a Bear middle linebacker). The then rookie appeared in nine games with the 44’s and Cookies in 2006, scoring 63 points. Knowing that a backup QB is essential to all parties, Chambers brought Philip Rivers back to Bull City to hold the clipboard in support of Drew Brees. Rivers was supposed to do the same thing for the Envy last year but both ended up flunking out. Rivers knows the BC playbooks after appearing twice for Chambers (2/11). The Busters continued on the hideous Green ways by selecting Donald Driver. Driver appeared in 14 games for the Cubists, but the numbers aren’t clear as to why he was such a bust. Johnson shored up his running crew by taking LaDell Betts as a bench guy. Betts played very well for the 44’s in 2006 (6/71) in the relief of Clinton Portis.

Round 5
41. Brian Urlacher, Chi LB P-Miss Envy
42. Lavenues Coles, NYJ WR Red Herrings
43. Vernand Morency, GB RB County Coroners
44. Mark Clayton, Bal WR Weaselicious Cookies
45. Jeremy Shockey, NYG TE Syracuse 44's
46. Warrick Dunn, Atl RB Peaks Island Wookies
47. Tatum Bell, Det RB San Francisco Cubists
48. Fred Taylor, Jax RB The Bull City
49. Terri Glenn, Dal WR The Ballbusters
50. Reggie Brown, Phi WR Brentless Brents

The fifth round featured many teams making reaches by trying to get some RB depth, but it started out with the Envy refusing to tempt fate any longer. For the fourth straight year, Missner selected Brian Urlacher, who has now been with the team for seven year and has been drafted by the Envy in each of his eight NFL seasons. Despite enduring a horrible year with the Envy, Urlacher came to play each and every Sunday (16/117). The Herrings continued to accrue WR depth by selecting Lavernues Coles, who was on the Busters for half the season (8/54). The Coroners selected their third RB of the draft, but who knows why they wasted their pick on Vernand Morency. The Texans reject (that says enough, doesn’t it?) did not appear in any games in 2006. The Cookies finally got off the RB train by taking Mark Clayton, the former Dolphin target of Dan Marino. Oh, this is a different one? Clayton appeared in five games for Bull City, scoring 23 points. Needing to inject some passion into his lineup, Stoer selected Jeremy Shockey. Shockey has seemed to bounce between the 44 and Envy camps, but was a third round pick of the Blatz a year ago. He appeared in 15 games for the Blatz/Horde and Envy and scored 67 points. The committee broke a few hearts by selecting Warrick Dunn for the Wookies. Dunn was a first round pick of the Baers in 2006 and played sparingly for Bull City and Syracuse (10/68). Will Mitchell’s life-altering experience was now rumored to be his attendance at a bris. Gasping for air, Moore selected Lions RB Tatum Bell, a Cubist washout (13/59) as a third round pick in 2006. Backing up to the bris, Chambers selected Fred Taylor to add his RB depth. Taylor soldiered on for the Cookies in 2006 and he was similarly selected in fifth round. Taylor had a good season (11/78) , all things considered, but should be ready for a break down. After a few false starts, Joseph chose Terry Glenn, a receiver for the Coroners (9/60) in 2006. Perhaps sensing a WR run, Johnson opted for the perennially disappointing Reggie Brown. Brown was selected as a sleeper prior to the 2006 season by draft experts, but played only a bit for the Envy and Brents (6/29).

Round 6
51. Braylon Edwards, Cle WR P-Miss Envy
52. Santana Moss, Was WR Red Herrings
53. Deion Branch, Sea WR County Coroners
54. Bernard Berrian, Chi WR Weaselicious Cookies
55. Chris Chambers, Mia WR Syracuse 44's
56. Calvin Johnson, Det WR Peaks Island Wookies
57. Tony Romo, Dal QB San Francisco Cubists
58. Keith Bulluck, Ten LB The Bull City
59. Shayne Graham, Cin K The Ballbusters
60. Jay Cutler, Den QB Brentless Brents

The Envy went back to the offense to continue the WR run by taking Braylon Edwards. Missner has asked Braylon if he minds being called Blue every now and then, and Edwards seemed unable to grasp the concept. The Herrings made a nice value pick with Santana Moss, who was excellent enough in 2005 to be drafted in the second round in 2006, where he was relative bust (10/64) for the Busters. Deion Branch is headed down the coast to join Darrell Jackson with the Coroners. Branch was a fourth round selection of the Wookies in 2006, but contract squabbles and Walrus-ness affected him (11/61). Weitz made his best pick of the draft in Round Six by selecting Bear flyer WR Bernard Berrian. Although his greatness did not appear on the Modano field (5/29), he was great and should be again. Chris Chambers is another 44 reclamation project. He was a keeper heading into 2006 by the Blatz, but even his Wisconsin roots could not overcome Daunte Culpepper. Chambers (8.37) fell into disrepair, but could be an excellent value. Speaking of excellent value, Will used the college supplementary draft to select Calvin Johnson in the third round. The huge Lion receiver should alter Will’s life, just like the time he saw Cabin Boy. The Cubists finally filled their QB hole, but it was not with what Moore imagined it to be. Causing a loud gasp by the owner following him. Another loud gasp was heard when Chambers selected Keith Bulluck, even though Bulluck (15/131) played in Bull City last year. More gasps and shrieks of horror were heard as the first kicker went off the board way to early. Knowing that no one would make fun of his pick for having already been taken, Joseph took Shayne Graham (13/86). That pick made Weitz laugh. Johnson ended Round Six with a backup QB, the potential laden Jay Cutler. “He could be the next John Elway,” Johnson gushed.

Round 7
61. Adrian Wilson, Ari DB P-Miss Envy
62. Champ Bailey, Den DB Red Herrings
63. London Fletcher, Buf LB County Coroners
64. Matt Jones, Jax WR Weaselicious Cookies
65. Eli Manning, NYG QB Syracuse 44's
66. Zach Thomas, Mia LB Peaks Island Wookies
67. Matt Leinart, Ari QB San Francisco Cubists
68. Donnie Edwards, KC LB The Bull City
69. Alge Crumpler, Atl TE The Ballbusters
70. Lance Briggs, Chi LB Brentless Brents

The Envy offense was coming around, but we all know that is not Missner’s favorite side of the ball. He took the top DB available in bone-crunching Adrian Wilson. Yo! Wilson played in 15 games for the Brents last year and scored 83 points – not great. The Herrings thought the Wilson pick was so good, they nabbed Champ Bailey to provide their defense with some secondary coverage. Bailey also knows the Wookie passing schemes very well after playing with the Wookies for most of 2006 (7/69). The top scoring defenseman of 2006 went off the board next as the Coroners brought back London Fletcher (16/150). Always a sucker for a potential and a pretty face, Weitz took Matt Jones. He played in three games for the Brents and 44’s and scored four points. The 44’s became the second to last team to get a QB and they took Eli Manning. Manning was a fourth round selection of the Brents last year but was never allowed to escape Carson Palmer’s shadow (5/60). Sounds familiar for Eli, doesn’t it? The committee figured it was time to get the Wookies defense started so they took Zach Thomas and eighth round selection of the Cubists a year ago (16/132). Noting that every other team had a QB, Moore decided it was time to get a signal caller and named Matt Leinart his starting QB. Leinart appeared in four games for the Envy and Wookies and scored 29 points in 2006. Ah, the old and familiar, Chambers took Donnie Edwards, who has been alternating seasons between Bull City and San Francisco. Edwards was the second highest scoring defensive player in the league last year (16/138). Knowing they would be without Tony Gonzalez for the first time since 2002, the Busters selected TE Alge Crumpler, who should be that much more of a threat now that Joey Harrington is throwing him the ball. Crumpler was the second highest scoring TE in the league (16/95 – behind Antonio Gates). Johnson crossed enemy lines to select Bear LB Lance Briggs. He was selected by the 44’s in the 13th round last year but suited up for the Brents for the majority of the season (14/124).

Round 8
71. Kellen Winslow Jr., Cle TE P-Miss Envy
72. Lendale White, Ten RB Red Herrings
73. Nate Kaeding, SD K County Coroners
74. L.J. Smith, Phi TE Weaselicious Cookies
75. Deshaun Foster, Car RB Syracuse 44's
76. Kerry Rhodes, NYJ DB Peaks Island Wookies
77. Vernon Davis, SF TE San Francisco Cubists
78. Chris Cooley, Was TE The Bull City
79. Julius Peppers, Car DL The Ballbusters
80. D.J. Hackett, Sea WR Brentless Brents

The Envy got their tight end in Round 8 with the selection of the ever-mouthy ‘Cane alum Kellen Winslow Jr. He will be quite a departure from the ever-mouthy ‘Cane alum Jeremy Shockey who has gone back to Syracuse. The Herrings took a flyer on a candidate for the Titans RB job in Lendale White, a former college supplementary choice of the franchise. The Coroners found their kicker down south in Nate Kaeding. Kaeding had the highest average (15/134) for the 44’s and Cookies last year. L.J. Smith was the choice of TE of the Cookies. In five games for the Busters last year he scored 34 points, so he could be a quality pick. The 44’s continued to bolster their running attack with DeShaun Foster, who seems to be squandering his many talents by getting hurt. Just go out of bounds, DeShaun. The committee selected Kerry “Tuffy” Rhodes for the Wookies. In eight games with the Envy and Cookies Rhodes scored 60 points. Trying to earn karma, Moore made a decision to pass on one TE and choose someone more close to home. A 49er, Vernon Davis, is headed to the Cubists. He was a Coroner as a rookie and scored just 14 points in 4 games. He is big though. The fourth TE of the round went next as Chambers thanked Moore for his generous spirit and took his hometown favorite Chris Cooley. Cooley was a 16 game starter for the Baers last year and scored 81 points. The Busters tended to their defense with Julius Peppers, who could play TE if called upon. Peppers was a Wookie last year (14/99), so he knows something about chowdah. The Brents took another flyer on Seahawk WR DJ Hackett. Hackett did not appear in any Modano games last year but someone has to fill in for Darrell Jackson. Might be a nice move for Johnson.

Round 9
81. Michael Turner, SD RB P-Miss Envy
82. Ben Watson, Den TE Red Herrings
83. Jeff Garcia, TB QB County Coroners
84. Ben Roethlisburger, Pit QB Weaselicious Cookies
85. Lamont Jordan, Oak RB Syracuse 44's
86. Kevin Jones, Det RB Peaks Island Wookies
87. Joey Galloway, TB WR San Francisco Cubists
88. Adam Vinatieri, Ind K The Bull City
89. Ronde Barber, TB DB The Ballbusters
90. Robbie Gould, Chi K Brentless Brents

The best back in the world has to have a backup and Michael Turner is his name. The Envy picked him up in preseason last year after a long run against the Bears. This year, Missner did not watch any preseason action but still picked the “After Burner” for RB depth. The Herrings got their TE with Ben Watson, a hometown favorite. Watson is a fine blocker, which should really help. The Coroners looked back to yesteryear by taking Jeff Garcia, who was a Coroner keeper in 2001-02. Matching him with Gruden should be interesting and makes for a good backup QB. The Cookies selected their backup QB as well in Ben Roethlisburger. Weitz now has Patriot and Steeler QB’s – should make those Dallas hometown fans happy. Mr. Reclamation project selected Lamont Jordan who was a major league sized bust for the Busters last year. In six games, he scored just 27 points and found his fanny on the pine for the majority of the second half of the season. The committee decided that three Lions weren’t enough for the Wookies, so they gave Will Kevin Jones as well. Jones was spectacular in the second half of 2005, but has done diddly since. He was the second pick in each of the last two drafts (by the Cookies in 2006 and 44’s in 2005) and put a suprisingly decent season for the Weasel last year (11/99). If Jeff Garcia deserved a pick, then his ancient receiving mate Joey Galloway probably deserved one as well. He picked up for that bum Michael Clayton well in 2006, but only appeared in one game for the 44’s after being a fifth round pick (1/5). Chambers likes to have an efficient kicker so he took Adam Vinatieri who had been on the Busters the last two years. Vinatieri had a good season too (13/103). Speaking of the Busters, they took Ronde Barber who should double in stature now that Tiki is out of the league. Hopefully, Tiki will say some nice things about him. Ronde was a 15 game starter for the Brents last year (15/126). The Brents found their kicker in Round 9 as well with Bear Robbie Gould, who may refuse to suit up for such a terribly named team. Gould was amazing in 2006 (14/120), but kickers are rarely amazing year to year.

Round 10
91. Ray Lewis, Bal LB P-Miss Envy
92. Neil Rackers, Ari K Red Herrings
93. Kirk Morrison, Oak LB County Coroners
94. Antonio Pierce, NYG LB Weaselicious Cookies
95. Adelius Thomas, NE LB Syracuse 44's
96. Alex Smith, SF QB Peaks Island Wookies
97. A.J. Hawk, GB LB San Francisco Cubists
98. Terrence McGee, Buf DB The Bull City
99. Lofa Tatupu, Sea LB The Ballbusters
100. Greg Jennings, GB WR Brentless Brents

The Envy brought back one of their original bruise brothers in Ray Lewis, who was an Envy keeper from 2002 and 2003. He may have lost a step, but teamed with Urlacher (who may have gained a step), he should be free to pursue nastiness. Lewis spent half his season last year with the Envy (and the other half with the Blatz/Horde) and was still quite effective (15/123). The Herrings selected Neil Rackers as their kicker. Rackers was great in 2005, but fell off to mediocrity (4/20) in 2006 with the Envy. The Coroners made their fans cheer with the selection of Kirk Morrison (10/82). The Cookies made thieir fans jeer with the selection of Antonio Pierce (8/60), who appeared with three teams in 2006 – the Envy, 44’s, and Horde. The defensive run continued as Stoer selected Adelius Thomas (15/128), his team’s 14th round selection in 2006. The Wookies were applauded for their backup for Jon Kitna (which may be needed) with Alex Smith, the improving 49er QB. Smith may be worthy in his third season to appear in a Modano game. The Cubists were roundly booed for their selection of crappy TV pitchman A.J. Hawk. Get a haircut, dude, seriously. Hawk appeared in six games with the Coroners and had 40 points. Chambers found a familiar face in Round 10 in Terrence McGee. The Bull City has selected him in each of the last three years and McGee has produced fine numbers (14/130). The Busters were given former Wookie Lofa Tatupu (16/118). And the Brents wasted their pick with continually injured and disappointing Greg Jennings (4/17) who appeared for the Blatz last year but complained that Farf threw the ball too hard and sat out the second half of the season with a strong case of wussiness.

Round 11
101. Rex Grossman, Chi QB P-Miss Envy
102. Jason Campbell, Was QB Red Herrings
103. Antonio Gonzalez, Ind WR County Coroners
104. Keith Brooking, Atl LB Weaselicious Cookies
105. DeMarcus Ware, Dal DL Syracuse 44's
106. Jeff Wilkins, StL K Peaks Island Wookies
107. Santonio Holmes, Pit WR San Francisco Cubists
108. Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ WR The Bull City
109. Reuben Droughns, NYG RB The Ballbusters
110. Bart Scott, Bal LB Brentless Brents

Prodded by Weitz who knew that he wanted to do the right thing, Missner selected Rex Grossman as his backup QB. Grossman’s schizophrenic season hurt the Wookies (8/24) in a number of ways. He was last selected, also by the Envy, in the 10th round of the 2004 draft. Charlie selected nearby QB Jason Campbell, who he should be able to watch each and every Sunday. The Coroners selected the other player that Amber Weitz knew (in addition to Peyton Manning) in Colts rookie WR Antonio Gonzalez. Keith Brooking should be a name Amber is familiar with because he is a Cookie for the third straight year. Stoer selected someone out of the Cookies backyard with DeMarcus Ware, who could be the beneficiary of Wade Phillips moving to Dallas (see, Shawne Merriman). The Wookies claimed their kicker Jeff Wilkins for the second consecutive year. He scored more points (16/135) than any other kicker last year. The Cubists took Steeler second year wideout Santonio Holmes, mostly because of his name. Similar reasoning caused the Bull City to select Jerricho Cotchery, who appeared in one game for the Cubists, Baers, and Brents last year and scored three points per. The Busters selected Reuben Droughns, one of the least efficient TD makers in NFL history. And the Brents took a Bart, Bart Scott to supplement their defense.

Round 12
111. Josh Scobee, Jax K P-Miss Envy
112. Aaron Kampfman, GB DL Red Herrings
113. Terrell Suggs, Bal DL County Coroners
114. Olindo Mare, NO K Weaselicious Cookies
115. Will Witherspoon, Car LB Syracuse 44's
116. Donte Stallworth, NE WR Peaks Island Wookies
117. Michael Bennett, KC RB San Francisco Cubists
118. Cato June, TB LB The Bull City
119. Steve McNair, Bal QB The Ballbusters
120. Tony Hunt, Phi RB Brentless Brents

Needing a kicker, the Envy took Josh Scobee. He appeared in one game for the Wookies in 2006 and hit a PAT. The Herrings claimed they had made a nice pick by selecting one year wonder Aaron Kampfman. He was a Brent last year (3/19) and he was more or less terrible. Much better was Terrell Suggs (1/2) who became a Coroner and may fill the Adelius Thomas position in the Raven defense. The Cookies selected Olindo Mare, but have since cut him for Josh Brown. The 44’s stocked their defense with a spoon, Will Witherspoon. He was a stalwart (13/107) for the Syracuse d-flex in 2006. The Wookies completed their Patriot wide receiver corps with Donte Stallworth, who was drafted for the sixth consecutive year. Last year, he was awful for the Baers (10/38). With Larry Johnson still holding out, the Cubists took a flyer on Michael Bennett. Johnson has since signed and Bennett has since been cut. The Bull City took a name from their past in Cato June, who has moved to Tampa Bay and will flank Derrick Brooks (undrafted for the first time in Modano history). The Busters found their backup QB in Steve McNair, who has sadly been relegated to a handing off role. His bionics are finally starting to fail him. The Brents completed their RB crew by taking Tony Hunt, the rookie out of Penn State who could have been a Coroner for a 14th round pick via the college supplementary draft.

Round 13
121. Ernie Sims, Det LB P-Miss Envy
122. Greg Olsen, Chi TE Red Herrings
123. Zach Miller, Oak TE County Coroners
124. Ed Reed, Bal DB Weaselicious Cookies
125. Jake Delhomme, Car QB Syracuse 44's
126. Isaac Bruce, StL WR Peaks Island Wookies
127. David Akers, Phi K San Francisco Cubists
128. Ted Ginn Jr., Mia WR The Bull City
129. Mike Peterson, Jax LB The Ballbusters
130. Devery Henderson, NO WR Brentless Brents

The Envy finished off their defense with second year Lion LB Ernie Sims. He was like the 6th Lion drafted – crazy. The Herrings took rookie TE Greg Olsen of the Bears. A nice pick if Olsen can get healthy. The Coroners found their blocking TE in Zach Miller of the Raiders (just win, baby). The Cookies finished their defense with formerly great Ed Reed. Stoer took a backup QB in Jake Delhomme, he has since been released. The Wookies were given Isaac Bruce, who was not drafted last year for the first time in his Modano history. David Akers will be the Cubists kicker in 2006. He kicked (10/68) for the Coroners in 2006. Bull City took a flyer on Dolphin rookie speedster Ted Ginn Jr, although he – like Miami – may have been better off taking Brady Quinn. The Busters took Mike Peterson, then cut him. Hoping to find another Colston, Johnson selected Devery Henderson of the Saints. Henderson appeared in three games for the Baers and Busters and failed to score more than three points (3/5).

Round 14
131. Brandon Marshall, Den WR P-Miss Envy
132. Justin Miller, NYJ DB Red Herrings
133. Jerry Porter, Oak WR County Coroners
134. Maurice Morris, Sea RB Weaselicious Cookies
135. Matt Stover, Bal K Syracuse 44's
136. Najeh Davenport, Pit RB Peaks Island Wookies
137. Takeo Spikes, Buf LB San Francisco Cubists
138. J.P. Losman, Buf QB The Bull City
139. Joe Horn, Atl WR The Ballbusters
140. Julian Peterson, Sea LB Brentless Brents

The 14th round found all of the owners tired and cranky, but it went quickly and harmlessly enough. There was still one point of intrigue though. The round started with the Envy taking a chance on Bronco WR Brandon Marshall. The Herrings brought back local favorite Justin Miller (Clemson alum, since dumped). The Coroners selected Josh McCown target Jerry Porter (since jettisoned). The Cookies selected Maurice Morris, although he is no Shaun Alexander. The 44’s became the only team to follow traditional fantasy advice by taking their kicker in the last round, the friendly named Matt Sto-ver. He was a 44 selection in 2005 and in 1998. The committee crapped on the Wookies by giving them bowel moving Najeh Davenport (since flushed). The Cubists brought back once productive LB Takeo Spikes (1/0). Bull City found a third string QB in J.P. Losman. The Busters were given Joe Horn, who may prosper in Atlanta. Who knows? The league, fearing the worst, almost took the Brents 14th round pick from the current champion. Johnson, knowing he had no choice, took LB Julian Peterson, leaving this the happiest draft in Modano history. No Farf staining, although a recent report has the 44’s signing the inbred one or as Stoer claimed, “we just wanted to make sure the media outlets had something to write about.”
