Week 1 Previews Another season begins with five of the greatest matchups every put together. No team has lost, no excuses have been made, and everyone is happy with their team. Well, lets erase all that quickly. The defending champions start the season facing the team that came in second place. First, of course, we have to comment on the vowel change in the middle of Bull Citys name: why would anyone want to forsake the most wonderful name in pro football for a drink that most resembles pee. While it is well within the leagues policy to disregard or change team names, we are going to see how the pee fares The Beers have familiar names in Alexander, Culpepper and Moss in the lineup, but will try out some new fellers in Holt, McCafferty and Doooooce as they try to improve their record against the Brents to 5-3. Last year the teams split as the Beers scored a franchise low 32 points in Week 3, but the Week 12 96-70 win, put Bull City on the championship path. The Brents open up with Farf, Portis, and Ahole back. Former Beer Hines Ward was stolen one pick ahead of Bull City and could have inside information on how to beat the champions. Interesting things always happen when the Cubists and Envy meet. Last year, the Week 3 79-118 loss sent Owner Jason Moore into dementia as he was replaced by his ghostly relative Dudley. Moore triumphantly returned after the Cubists broke the Envys four game winning streak with a 91-81 win in Week 12. Moore knows that his last two championships have been won in seasons in which his team was swept by the Envy, so he is put in an interesting dilemma. Once again, the Cubist pantry looks stocked with goodies including the returning three headed monster of Lewis, Dillon and Barber. The Envy hope QB Donovan McNabb has had a restful offseason because he is going to be shouldering the load in 2003. Owner Perry Missner did equip his team with a fine trio of receivers in Marty Booker, Chad Johnson, and Eric Moulds, but the running attack leaves something to be desired. The Envy hold a 5-3 series lead. The Peaks Island Wookies completely fell apart at the end of 2002, losing their last three games in blowout fashion the last one at the hands of the 44s. Owner Will Mitchell is hoping to staunch the bleeding and start anew. His hopes center on his new tight end who reminds him so much of Ben Coates. Daniel Grambo Graham is big, mean, and nasty, but he has big shoes to fill. Troy Brown and William Green make their returns to the Wookies. Green finished the season with the 44s. Owner John Stoer is on his latest tour of the American landscape and has been ownering by proxy heretofore. He hopes his team can even up the series at 4. Kelly Holcombe is the starting QB and will quickly be acquainted with Marvin Harrison. The Coroners and Losers participated in that anomaly of fantasy football last year the tie. Owner Chad Nuss came out with the win to secure the Coroners best season ever. The series is tied at three. The Coroners are paced by their 8 Raider starters while the Losers only have one Packer going. Wheres the home team support? Finally, the rookie of the league, Owner Rich Joseph, tries to turn around the leagues worst franchise against the leagues second worst franchise and worst active owner. Owner Dan Weitz will be hoping that his Rams score a heap of points against the Giants. The Ballbusters make the controversial move of benching keeper Peyton Manning, who is maintaining a team first attitude at this point, for hurting Jeff Garcia, who faces the resurgent Bear D. Good luck with that.
