MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Welcome and thank you for visiting our website.
The year 2001 has been a most challenging one for us all in global terms
as well as regional and national. It is within these difficult business
parameters that Project Management skills come to the fore to assist us
in coping with the times - that is our conviction and the main reason why
we intend for PMIMY to be more active in the time to come.
In the last year we spent a fair amount of time planning and strategizing.
We started off the year with a hard rethink on our Strategic Charter which
lays out what we need to accomplish for the Malaysia Chapter.
The primary objective was to formally launch the Malaysia Chapter with
a Conference that would be opened by our Prime Minister. It was by his
initiative that this institution was formed in the first place in the year
1994 through PETRONAS and the Business Advanced Technology Center at UTM.
Our plans called for a wider awareness of Project Management beyond
the Energy Industry and Academia. The response from the New Technology industries
esp Communications and Computing was positive but limited to the large
corporations. This situation, we thought, needed to change. We needed to
reach the Small-Medium Enterprises or SME's.
This can only be accomplished through a concerted effort by the General
Council as well as our more active ex-officios and senior members. Key
to this initiative is an expansion of our membership base in the key industries
of Energy-Utilities as well as Construction and perhaps Defense. We see
ICT, Finance and Human Rsources as critical support sectors that needed
to drive the main economic industrial activities in the country and the
region. Therefore the formation of the Malaysia Special Interest Group
or MYSIG series as listed. We have managed to start these off in 2001 but
this year will determine its impact.
However many of our well intended plans for the year has had to be postponed
or cancelled partly due to the sudden change in the business environment
and more by the lack of resources at our disposal. We intend to change
this in the coming year by expanding our Secretariat and gaining sponsorship
from Government & Corporate organizations for our programs.
The new General Council to be elected in 2002 will need to carry the
weight of this duty and we need to muster the support of our members as
well as colleagues and associates in the various business sectors.
Our activities in the early part of 2002 will attempt to do this prior
our handing over to the next General Council.
I thank you in advance for your kind support of our plans.
