| Chansey "The God Card?" |
|
So you think Chansey is just a cute puffball, right? Wrong, Chansey is one of the most lethal and vicious Pokemons out there. How is that? How is a cute egg type Pokemon vicious? Well, in our circle, Chansey's also known as The Devil and The Assassin.
A quick description of Chansey is that it's a 120 HP Basic Pokemon with two attacks. Scrunch for 2 Colorless prevents all damage done to Chansey, and Double Edge for 4 Colorless that does 80 damage to the opposing Pokemon and 80 to Chansey. There's basically two ways to use Chansey, the defensive way and the offensive way. The defensive way is well known and that's to use Chansey's 120 HP to stall the opponent. Scrunch comes in handy by preventing damage every other round to Chansey. The reason why Chansey is such a good stalling Pokemon isn't because of scrunch, it's because of the 1 retreat cost. At any time when your bench is sufficiently powered up, you can easily retreat Chansey without sacrificing it's life. Chansey is also really nice as a Damage Swap Pokemon. It goes perfect with Alakazam because of the enormous 120 HP. A Scoop Up and Chansey's perfectly healthy again. Chansey's Double Edge is occasionally used as a last resort move, basically to suicide and to take out the opposing Pokemon. But that's not what this article is about. The above information should be common information. The beauty of Chancey is that one, it's Colorless - it can use any type of energy. Two, it's a Basic Pokemon. And because of that, it's the single most damaging Basic Pokemon in the game. No other Basic Pokemon can deal the amount of damage that Chansey can. Chancey fits in perfect with decks like Raindance and Venusaur's Energy Trans. To play Chansey on offense, never play Chansey to the bench. Never let the opponent know you even have Chansey, and never let them know until you deliver the death blow. With Chansey in your hand, at any turn you choose you can deliver an instant 80 damage attack, and the opponent has no way in seeing it coming. For example, you have Blastoise down and you're playing an Alakazam deck. Alakazam is safely sitting on the bench and your opponent has a Switch to save Alakazam, or Alakazam has enough energy to Retreat. The opponent's feeling safe right now, but suddenly your turn comes and you place Chansey on the bench. You retreat your active and promote Chansey to active. Now Raindance four energy to Chansey and Gust if necessary. BOOM, instant 80 damage from nowhere. If you're playing Energy Trans and the opponent is unable to finish Chansey, just Energy Trans the energy off and PokeCenter, then Double Edge again. Repeat until your opponent cusses out Chansey and starts to call it names, like The Demon or the Evil Assassin. The whole key of Chansey's offensive ability is the art of surprise. Never let the opponent know what you're going to do. Let them feel safe and let them think they're controlling the game. And then unleash The Demon upon them, and use your most evil laugh as you execute your Demon's Edge. In one turn, Chansey can completely turn the game around PMEF_PoKeBoY's Rating- 9.5 out of 10 |
