Beautiful Pharaoh Lake
Like the Adirondacks? So do I. It's hard not to fall in love with the pristine wilderness areas. I'd like to share a story of a recent trip to the Pharaoh Lake wilderness region with you.

On October 12, 13, my friend and I journeyed into the
Pharaoh Lake Wilderness region eager to enjoy some of what the Adirondack Wilderness has to enjoy.

Our trip began with a rainy start and we left without a Topo map (I don't recommend this at all!). Fortunately, an Eastern Mountain Sports store was en route and they had the specific topo that we needed. I like those stores because of the knowledgeable staff. Oh, I almost forgot the bear proof containers. Apparently the bears are learning how to get into them. Coming soon I'll post a picture of one the containers that a bear has made a an attempt at opening, It gives you a good idea at just how sharp those claws and teeth are.

Also, I'll talk about my near death experience. Alright...maybe not near death but it sure felt like it. Hypothermia is not joke - very unpleasant, carry wear the proper attire and carry the suitable sleeping gear including a sleeping pad to insulate you from cold surfaces.

We'll talk about the camp stove that we used and it's effectiveness in our particular application.

Let's not forget the weight of our pack - 52 lbs which was originally for a 2 day excursion. We found out the hard way the toll that carrying excess weight can take on you.
