| Take a look at this website to see how we in SC are portrayed nationally. http://www.cagle.com/news/flag/main.asp |
The following is an excerpt from the NATION magazine email list: At http://www.thenation.com/print/foner currently is Eric Foner's comment on the recent mass march of 50,000 in Columbia, South Carolina in protest of the Confederate battle flag. Foner, president of the American Historical Association and an internationally acclaimed scholar of reconstruction, sees this current battle as the latest episode of a long-running debate over the legacy of slavery and the Civil War still being played out almost a century-and-a-half after Emanicipation. |
| From one of our own: I was there for a couple of hours. It was terribly exciting and inspiring to be in a crowd that large that shared my dream of bringing down that abomination that flies over our statehouse. Unfortunately, the acoustics were not so good, and it was not until nearly the time that I had to leave that I started being able to hear more than occasional words and phrases. I suspect I knew already the gist of the words being said, that my presence was more important than being educated on the issue. Rev. Sam George |
