The Garden in Early Summer

A year on from its creation

It is amazing the difference a year makes in a garden. In 2003 I decided to ring the changes. The pots have been planted up with traditional hanging basket plants - and the effect has been really pleasing. A new blue item can be made out in this picture - a bird bath just below the bird table.

Well, I have to admit it - the garden furniture has still not been painted! But hey! I am always saying I'm not out to win awards - and anyway, this is the garden version of shabby chic. I could be starting a trend.

On the table this year is a friendship ring - a Christmas gift from my cousin. There is a space in the middle for a candle.

These two views show another change in the garden. Gone is rather old and rundown greenhouse, it was rarely used, and in it's place a brand new garden shed. Is a garden ever finished?

The Summer of 2003 saw a heat wave in England, and the garden certainly thrived on the unusual temperatures. By August 10th the garden is more lush than I have seen it in a long time. The welcome rain on that day freshened the garden for these early morning pictures.

...and no - the garden furniture is still not repainted. I have been too busy with the paintbrush in this year's summer project, the refurbishment of what I am now calling the sunroom.

Daytime and Night-time

The enclosed veranda overlooking the garden has been reborn as a place to sit and admire the garden. Hopefully I shall soon be able to enjoy this.
