Plug Out, Plug In is a project that I thought up and started during my Senior Year in high school, in 2006. The idea came to me after I saw Al Gore's film version of An Inconvenient Truth, and decided that I had to somehow get my school involved in the movement to stop global warming. An activity that could catch on, I thought, would be unplugging appliances. It requires little effort, is easy to get statistics, and can be set up in a competitive yet educational way.

    The Acronym
The name "Plug Out, Plug In" is just a catchy phrase I thought of that brings the activity back to main picture. So the appliances are unplugged... Now what? Well, now it is time to "plug in" to the greater meaning, which, of course, is global warming. Global warming is very real, and affects all inhabitants of planet Earth. After helping out a bit, why not learn? And so "Plug Out, Plug In" became the name of the activity.

    In The Beginning
Plug Out, Plug In, currently an infant project, is growing up at Marist High School, in Eugene, Oregon. I proposed the idea to the Human Rights Alliance, a club focused on educating the school community on progressive solutions to current problems. There are about five people actively working on the project.
