JazzyDraw "ReadMe.txt"

JazzyDraw Operational Requirements:
===================================
 Any 320x320 hardware (not Z22 or earlier)
 Palm OS v3.5
 MathLib.prc
 Pluart.prc
 JazzyDraw_v1.prc

IMPORTANT: JazzyDraw will NOT work without first installing the FREEWARE "pluart.prc" or "plua.prc" (not both) from the plua-1.1 ZIP file (make sure it is the 1.1 version, not the 1.0 version). I never tested with "Plua1.0", only "Plua1.1". To save space use "pluart.prc". To make your own Plua programs use "plua.prc". I don't believe I am allowed to distribute it, so you need to go to the author's website and get it from there.

http://meusite.uai.com.br/~mmand/plua/plua.htm

If that site is unavailable, then it appears the Freeware Palm site must have some agreement to distribute it, because it is also available there:

Try using Google with "Freeware Palm Plua" as a search criteria.

I, the author, do not accept any responsibility nor liability for damage caused by this software. This software is FREEWARE. It can be freely distributed on the condition of no modification. The "Plua" software required to activate this software is managed by its own policies unrelated to this software. As of the changed date listed (FEB2008), my understanding of Plua's policy was that Plua 1.1 could be USED freely for at least personal use, but it has restrictions on distribution. Plua 2.0 (and above) may be more restrictive. This app does not work with Plua2.0. See the Plua website for all Plua policies. Any Plua policies shown on the Plua website override anything written here. I hold absolutely no rights to the term "Plua".

Install Procedure:
==================
1.) Acquire "MathLib.prc" and install that first.
    http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/mathlib.shtml

2.) Acquire "plua-1.1.zip" and install "pluart.prc" next.
    http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/plua.shtml

3.) Then install "JazzyDraw_v1.prc" from this downloaded ZIP file.

4.) Synchronize your device with your computer and the application icon should now appear in your UNFILED category.

DONE... that's all you need. Enjoy!

The Advertising Pitch:
======================
JazzyDraw is better than any other FREEWARE Palm OS 3.5 drawing application that I have found (if I do say so myself). It is designed specifically for people who want COLOR and want artistic features. It is missing some nice features that other applications have such as ALERTS. JazzyDraw will not allow you to set a timer for a picture to reappear. JazzyDraw is NOT better than all PAID drawing applications. If you want to buy an expensive drawing application, then I am sure you can find a better one somewhere.

JazzyDraw was specifically designed to be easy and fun for kids to use. Kids do enjoy playing with it. The younger ones like to use "FILL" on some of the pre-made shapes. Older kids tend to explore more.

One word of caution when letting your kids use it... they will eventually find the "Save" feature, so they might wipe out some pictures you wanted to keep!

Having Troubles? Here are some typical problems/answers:
=========================================================
Q: Hey! Why can't I save a file by name or at least have more than 10 pictures?
A: You can only create 10 pictures. Sorry.
However if you use third party applications, like FREEWARE 'Snap', then you can screen capture the images to files such as *.BMP, etc. for longer-term storage.

You can also use a file maintenance application like FREEWARE FileZ to rename the file for more permanent storage. However, the application will no longer remember this file until it is renamed to a standard 1-10 name again. It will be entirely up to you to manage it at that point.

The reason for this limit is because I wanted to finally finish the application. :-) Besides, I didn't want to make it too easy for users to accidentally clutter up their devices with lost pictures (106k each).

The saved pictures take up quite a bit of room, but a total of 10 should not be too bad.

Q: Hey! Why doesn't it work right?
A: Well... that depends, but the most common problems are:
   1.) You missed an install step.
   2.) You ran out of memory.
   3.) You are trying to run the application on an unsupported device.
       Don't run it on z22 nor Windows based Treos... it won't work.

Q: Hey! Why does loading a picture wipe out my current picture?
A: It was easier to code that way. It isn't that bad if you get used to using the "undo" feature. I agree that the handling of saved pictures is a bit annoying at first. But, if you don't give up and use the UNDO, you will probably get sort-of used to it. The screen is just a "working zone". The device holds the saved images. The "Pic1" dropdown is just a name chooser. Changing the name does not immediately save or load the file... those are separate steps. So, it is easy to have "Pic1" showing in the dropdown and "Pic5" showing on the screen. Be careful or you will accidentally wipe out "Pic5" (for example) when you "Save&Exit". When I lose track if I am in sync, I usually use the UP/DOWN arrows to confirm where I want to save, then UNDO until my picture reappears. This is also dangerous because there are only about 10 saved UNDO buffers, so you can easily undo past your picture and lose it before it is saved! You will get used to these behaviors over time. It is usable once you get used to it.

Q: Hey! Sometimes a stray line is drawn on my picture which totally messes up my picture! Why?
A: I assume that in most cases it is because the active screen sends the wrong coordinates to JazzyDraw. In a few cases it might also just be a defect in JazzyDraw. The only way to live with this problem is to use the "u" undo key command when it occurs.

Q: Hey! How come the "T" key (or other key) command does not work?
A: I chose not to support all UPPER-cASE versions of the commands. If you want to make sure all key commands are active, then make sure you are in LOWER-CASE mode.

Q: Hey! I have a problem not on the list... what do I do?
A: Well, double-check the amount of free memory, by using the 'M' key command. If the problem is due to lack of memory, you will need to clear some other things from your device to free up enough memory. There is a built in check for memory, but it might not trigger perfectly, so save often. If the problem is not due to lack of memory, then perhaps you have found a real defect. In that case send the detailed recreation steps of what you did and the result it gave you, to:
    pluaprogrammer@yahoo.com
I do not check this email address very often, so you will need to be patient. Moreover, I might stop checking it completely (or disconnect it) if interest overall is low.

Uninstall:
==========
Delete the following things and JazzyDraw should be completely removed from your device:
1.) All JazzyDraw image files "JazzyDrawPic1" - "JazzyDrawPic10" (use FileZ).
2.) JazzyDraw application (JazzyDraw_v1.0.prc).
3.) Plua/Pluart
4.) Mathlib (if another application doesn't need it)

If you have removed these items, then I believe JazzyDraw is 100% cleaned from your system. However, I am not an expert at the Palm OS, so I could somehow be mistaken.

Donations:
==========
I would love to get donations in appreciation for my work. You are not obligated, but it would be wonderful to get them. Unfortunately, due to the TAX implications, It would only be worth collecting the donations if they totalled, across all people donating, more than $300.00 (for example). So, for now all I can do is collect "Pledges" by email. If the "Pledges" reach a large enough sum, then I will work through all the tax implications and request that those who pledged actually send a payment.

Send your pledge amount to:
pluaprogrammer@yahoo.com

I would also love to see your artwork. Please send me some screen captured pictures (via the third-party 'Snap' application) to the same email address:
pluaprogrammer@yahoo.com
