This game has "strategy" written all over it. This game wrote the book! Yes, this is the game that invented the patented "Cover Up Strategy"! Simply put, it behooves you to get one new number right on each turn. It is not a good idea to try to get every number right on your first turn, because if you get 4 numbers right, you only get one more turn, and if you're wrong, you lose. Here's the best way to do it:
If NEITHER 0 nor 5 is offered as the last digit for the price of the car, that's the worst that could happen, BUT it's not completely hopeless. Simple here. Get the first digit RIGHT, and get the second digit WRONG. Try to get the other three digits right too. On your second turn, get the second digit RIGHT. You'll be guaranteed at least 3 chances at the car.
If BOTH 0 and 5 are choices for the last digit of the car, that's better. One of those will always be the last number. If this is the case, get the first digit RIGHT, but again, get the second digit WRONG. Try to get the third and fourth digits right, and take a stab at whether the last digit is 0 or 5, and hope you're wrong. What you do on your second try depends on whether you got the last digit right or wrong. If you got it right, get the second number right on your next turn, and try to get the third and fourth numbers right too. If you got it wrong, though, that's actually GREAT! Get that last number right this time, but get the second digit wrong AGAIN. Try to get the fourth digit right, but try to get the third digit wrong. Getting the second digit wrong but the last digit right guarantees you at least 4 chances! On your third turn, get the second digit right (you'll have to, actually, since there will only be one choice for the second digit left), try to get the fourth number right, and try to get the third digit wrong again. If you get the second digit right, and the third digit wrong, you're guaranteed to win that car!
If 0 or 5 is offered as the last number in the price of the car, but not both, you're in great shape to win that car! On your first chance, get the first digit WRONG. Get the second digit WRONG. Try to get the third digit wrong too, if you can. Try to get the fourth digit right though, and GET THAT LAST DIGIT RIGHT! If you do this, you will have to get the first number right on your next turn, since there will only be one choice left. Again, on your second try, get the second number wrong again, and try to get the third number wrong again. Try to get the fourth number right, though. On your third try, you'll have to get the second number right, since there will only be one choice for that digit left. Again, try to get the third digit wrong, but try to get the fourth digit right. If, at the end of your third turn, you have only the first, second, and last digits right, you WILL win that car! Guess the only remaining number for the third digit, and guess anything for the fourth digit--it doesn't matter! If you're right about the fourth digit, you'll win the car at the end of your fourth turn, but if you're wrong, you'll get a fifth turn, and you'll have only one choice for that digit, so you'll win anyway. |
