Dockery Lake and Waters Creek Campgrounds Waters Creek Directions: Take U.S. 19 north from Dahlonega for 12 miles; turn left on Forest Service road for 1 mile. Dockery Lake Directions: Take Georgia 60 north from Dahlonega for 12 miles, turn right (east) on Forest Service Road 654 for 1 mile. Waters Creek Activity Overview Located along one of Georgia's trophy trout streams, the camping and picnicking area offers eight campsites with picnic tables. Campsites are equipped with charcoal grills, campfire areas, tent pads, and are alongside the creek. Dockery Lake Activity Overview Overlooking Dockery Lake and nestled deep off the side of a mountain, this recreation area offers camping, hiking, picnicking and fishing. The area offers 11 campsites with tables and tent pads. Other Opportunities Fishing for trophy-size trout is popular among visitors in Waters Creek. Special rules for fishing Waters Creek: � Waters Creek and its tributaries are open during the trout season on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday only between 6:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time (7:30 P.M.. Eastern Daylight Saving Time) with the following restrictions: � Artificial lures with a single barbless hook no larger than a #6 must be used. One lure can be used at a time. You cannot possess lures that do not meet these criteria while on the area. � Landing nets may not exceed two (2) feet in length. � Possession of any bait, lure, landing net, or gear not legal for use on the stream is unlawful. � All anglers must check in and out of the creek. � No night fishing allowed. � License Requirements: Residents: Georgia resident fishing license, Trout license, and WMA license. Senior (65+) Lifetime and Honorary License holders do not need a WMA license. Nonresidents: Nonresident Georgia fishing license, nonresident trout license, and nonresident WMA license. Florida residents more than 65 years of age must possess nonresident trout and WMA licenses. � Size limits: 22 inches for brown and rainbow trout and 18 inches for brook trout. It is a violation to possess a trout smaller than these limits while fishing on Waters creek. � Possession limits: � One (1) trout may be possessed daily. � No person may take more than three (3) trout per season. Fishing in Dockery Lake is popular also. However, night fishing is not allowed and the lake is only open during the regular trout season . � License Requirements: Residents: Georgia resident fishing license, and Trout license. Nonresidents: Nonresident Georgia fishing license, nonresident trout license, and nonresident WMA license. Florida residents more than 65 years of age must possess nonresident trout and WMA licenses. Check State fishing regulations for more information before fishing Waters Creek and Dockery Lake. Picnicking in campsites is also available if not occupied by campers at Waters Creek. The picnic area at Dockery Lake offers six picnic tables. Dockery Lake, Woody Gap and Lake Winfield Scott are all closeby and offer numerous recreation opportunities. Dockery Gap Scenic Overlook offers another spectacular view of North Georgia, and Woody Gap offers a breathtaking view as well. The Appalachian Trail also can be accessed at Woody Gap. Hikers can enjoy the 3.4-mile Dockery Lake Trail, which provides access to the Appalachian Trail. The National Scenic Appalachian Trail may be accessed from Lake Winfield Scott. Closest towns are Helen to the northeast, Cleveland to the southeast, and Dahlonega to the southwest. Closest recreation areas with camping are Desoto Falls and Vogel State Park. Suches and Dahlonega are interesting towns to visit also. Waters Creek Site Amenities: Road to recreation area is paved. Restrooms have no railings but most campsites are accessible to people with disabilities. Each of the eight campsites are equipped with a tent pad, picnic table and grill. Drinking water is also available at this area. Dockery Lake Site Amenities: Loop through recreation area is gravel. Each campsite is equipped with tent pad and picnic table. Restrooms and drinking water are also available. Requirements: A fee is required. The Waters Creek area is open from late March until the end of October. Dockery Lake Area opens mid-April and closes late October; gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. daily. A fee is required. Recommended Seasons: Spring through fall.
