| Explaining the Seal: The Colors: Maroon: The color maroon is symbolic of the harvest and the farming community that thrives in Portage. Gold: The gold area represents the high quality and richness of the Portage harvests. White: The white stripes are symbolic of the good that can exist in Portage with freedom. Blue: The blue on which everything rests is symbolic of our seriousness and determination to win the freedom of our nation. The Design: The square in the middle of the flag represents the nation of Portage as a rising sun. The eleven sections of color above the blue symbolize both the eleven hours Ryan Knuckles first had control of Portage and the bright rays of Sun. The black squirrel in the middle is there because it is believed that black squirrels came from Portage. It holds a musket to show that we are ready for action if it is needed. |
