Abraham And Mary "Polly" Evans Moore
The earliest ancestors known for the Moore family of South Carolina are Abraham Moore and his wife Mary "Polly" Evans Moore. They were born sometime during the 1790's and were married in the mid 1810's. Abraham Moore was young man, a teen really, when he and Mary started their family. He acquired a vast amount of land and established his own farm or "plantation". He and Mary had six children born in the following order: Mohala Moore, a daughter, born in 1817; Jemima Moore, a daughter, born in 1819; John J. Moore, a son, born in 1821; Robert Abraham Moore, a son, born in December 1822; Evander E. Moore, a son, born in 1825; Benjamin C. Moore, a son, born in 1827.  The plantation of Abraham and Mary was over 2500 acres and as many people did in those times they had slaves. One slave that is mentioned in courthouse records was named Betty. Abraham bought her from John T. Scott and Sarah M. Lowery on January 7, 1840. Abraham paid $575.00 for her. I often think of what ever happened to Betty. Was she used as a field hand? I doubt it because that seems like a lot of money for a field hand. I think she was a "Mammy" but for who I don't know because Abraham and Mary's children would have been teens when she was purchased. Another mystery I  will have to solve!

This house is located on the original site of Abraham and Mary's homestead. It was originally a 4 room house and is owned by Darla Moore. She has recently had it built onto and she uses it as her home when she is in South Carolina.
It is believed by many of the family that the parents of Abraham Moore were named James Moore and Jemima McAllister! I have yet to find any proof to back this up!
