Erin Brockovich is based on the true story of how a middle-class underdog became the hero
of a small California town. After several searches for a job, Erin manages to get one at the firm
that lost her accident case. As a file clerk, she further investigates a case and discovers a
polluted water problem. Eventually, all is solved and Erin is our hero. What sets this story
aside from films like A Civil Action is it doesn't bore us with a long trial and by taking
itself too dramatically. The film blends a serious tale with many humorous quips to tell a truly
fascinating tale.
Julia Roberts stars as Erin, the hard-working, twice-divorced, single mother of three just
trying to do the best she can for her kids. The performance she accomplishes is remarkable and
something to look at come awards time. Julia Roberts is indeed a talented actress, but I must say
this is one of her greatest performances. Highlighting this remarkable performance is her
chemistry with co-star Albert Finney. The relationship these two put out to the audience is very
convincing and gets you believing they have known each other for years.
Erin Brockovich is a great film, definitely one of my favorites in this slow film year. Some
moments are a bit predictable, but that does not detract from the appeal of this film. Great
performances and some laugh-out-loud funny moments make this truly enjoyable. One of the better
films of the year!
