TAGLINE: Where would you turn? How far would you go? How hard will you fall?
Wow! I did not think it was possible, but Hollywood managed to wrangle up just about every talented, young, up-and-coming, male, actor and stick them into one film. This is an accomplishment in itself, but to actually have a story to go along with all this skilled testosterone is a treat. The story is about the greed that goes on under an illegal firm where they call and rip off every schmuck weak enough to fall into their little game.
I believe this is a film that will always be remembered, despite not doing very well commercially. The story is quite good and intriguing, but I believe the people involved with the film are what must be looked out for. Practically everyone in this film is obviously going to be a big star, if they have not achieved that status already.
Ive always adored Giovanni Ribisi and have always had high hopes for him. After utter tripe like The Mod Squad, I think he has finally found the film to put him on the map. As for everyone else involved in the film, well, who hasnt heard of Ben Affleck? And Nia Long, another personal favorite, is indeed on her way. And I believe Tom Everett Scott has been on the rise since That Thing You Do. But Vin Diesel is someone I have found a new interest in. I really see this guy making his mark in Hollywood, possibly as the next big action star (remember his role in Pitch Black?).
This is director/writer Ben Youngers debut and I see great things in his future. He has a knack for story telling and is very talented. I watched this movie and kept thinking this is really a new film. The type of music he chooses, a mix between traditional score and rap music, is an innovative step in filmmaking. This is a new standard of film that will be mimicked and lead to many new traditions in movie making. I watched this movie the same day as Return To Me and both are films that set a new standard for their genre and film in general. However, this film may be considered a bit gloomy, although that does add to the appeal, many of the characters are far too unlikable for you to care what happens to them in the end, and it does become a bit of a traditional story about halfway through.
