TAGLINE: He's deep undercover

This is one of those films I didnt expect to be really funny and am glad I was wrong about. From previews and reviews, I thought this would be a gross-out comedy along the lines of Me, Myself, & Irene, but this movie is nothing like that. Sure it has a few gaseous sounds here and there, but this is basically just a comedy with a bit of romance, suspense, and crime. Sight gags do not run amok here and, in not doing so, dont take over the film. Driving this film is Martin Lawrences comedic muscles being stretched in excess here. I have always seen him to have the potential to be the next Eddie Murphy and this expressed very well here.

From the trailer for this film, you get the basic idea of what it is about, though the previews dont give away all the jokes. Martin Lawrence dresses as the grandmother of a woman to track down her bank-robbing ex-boyfriend. Eventually, he falls in love with her, they catch the bad guy, and all ends on a happy note.

This is all light fare, but quite funny. However, who knows if these jokes would still work if it were given a different cast? I already said I enjoyed Martin Lawrence, so I wont go into detail about him. Instead, Ill focus on Nia Long. She is truly a fine actress and I always enjoy her, and here is no different. She just has a quality that makes her so believably innocent, and this is a huge plus here considering the situation her character is in.

Of the three comedies I saw today, I believe I laughed the most at this one. Dont expect this to be goofy toilet humor, though there are enough gags like this for those who enjoy these jokes. The cast is wonderful and there are some truly funny scenes. In all, this is a hilarious film and fun for everyone. 1
