Documents relating to the history of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church are in the collection of the Presbyterian Historical Society at Montreat, NC. The Presbyterian Historical Society is a division of the Office of the General Assembly of the Prebsbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Included in the collection are:
- an 1867 request from Martha F. Vasser Hunter to Rev. Meredith of the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Mt. Carmel) at Pleasant Hill for transfer
of her church letter to a church more convenient to her home at Cahawba;
- the original manuscript church session book from Pleasant Hill
Presbyterian Church. Entries begin with the organization of the church in
1873 and end in 1926. The book is believed to have been placed in the
collection at Montreat by Miss Julia Lewis;
- part of an original manuscript church session book from Mount Carmel
Cumberland Presbyterian Church, listing the names of pastor, elders,
deacons, and communicants in October 1881
- a timeline history of the church from the papers of James Williams
Marshall, covering the years between 1872 and 1935;
- a form registering information on Dr. Kenneth McKinnon for a history of
the Presbyterian Church in Alabama being prepared by James W. Marshall of
Chattahoochee, Florida;
- a manuscript history of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church fron 1873 to
September 1890, by Dr. Kenneth McKinnon;
- the 1896 obituary of William Lewis Moore, Jr. nephew of Rev. William Moore,
pastor of Pleasant Hill (Mt. Carmel) Presbyterian Church (published
February 1897 by The Southwestern Presbyterian);
- measured drawings and photographs of the church made by Michael V. Sims
in 1998.
The Presbyterian Historical Society maintains the Registry of American/Reformed Historical Sites. In hopes that the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church will benefit from the recognition of the Presbyterian General Assembly, application has been made recently to place the church on the registry. With the consent of the owner (Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association), the church will be entered into the registry and a numbered marker (bearing a likeness of John Calvin's seal) to be mounted at the site. The Presbyterian Historical Society will pay $72.00 toward the cost of the plaque, leaving the balance of $50.00 to be paid by the Cemetery Association.The address of the Presbyterian Historical Society is: P.O.
