Timesplitters 2 was an unexpected surprise to me this year. I was overcome with joy when I learned that they would be making an expectable sequel to a great game (mostly for its multiplayer experience). Of course, I expected more from the new Timesplitters. Were my hopes fulfilled? Failed? Surpassed? Read on and find out...
Gameplay: This game is your standard shooter. When the former creators of Goldeneye decided to reform and creat a bigger and badder game than before, they meant business. There are about 12 levels, 75 arcade levels, 75 challenge levels, and three difficulty levels. That is just single player! Multiplayer is an entire different experience. There are 150+ multiplayer characters, 20 different multiplayer modes, including story co-op. The driving factor of this game is its unbeatable replay value. I have played for a solid 20 hours and still haven't beaten everything. How could I. It will take at least 50 hours. Then I'll still have fun trying to beat the game with a friend. Every level you beat gives you some sort of prize in either a multiplayer mode or arcade section. This constant award system really makes the game worth playing because you never get bored of it. The biggest surprise though was the addition of a map-maker. Ususally, it mike seem more as a gimmick, but here it works perfectly. YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN MISSIONS! Voice your own characters, and make your own music. Amazing.
As far as the story goes, I will have to say that it is the weakest part of the game. Its loosely tied together, and frankly, I would still love Timesplitters 2 regardless. Overall, gameplay gets a 9/10.
Graphics and Sound: There isn't much to say in this department. Both of these parts of the game push the power of the PS2. Character animations are possibly the most fluid I've seen and there is no slowdown in the framerate. Overall, the graphics have a cartoony look to them, and I love it. The sound in this game is awesome. Every weapon, ranging from an 1785AD crossbow, to a 2413AD Plasma autorifle, every weapon has its own distinct sound. The character voicing is top notch too. But above all, The music in this game is Oscar Worthy. Every level has its own musical score. Well done. 10/10
Final Thoughts: This game was as much as I expected and even more. What can I say, if you have ANY friends, buy this game now. Even without them, there is a solid 40 hours of life in this game. I still haven't beaten all of the arcade and challenge games. Neither have I beaten the games three difficulty levels. If you beat it on hard, I salute you. This game is a must buy for anyone remotely interested on having a great time. OVERALL:10/10 |
