Red Faction Review
Story: You assume the role of Parker, a miner in mines run by the Ultor Corporation isolated underneath the exterior of Mars. The miners are anguishing from ruthless living conditions and a bizarre; disease called the Plague that is has suddenly killed many miners. The miners' anger builds, and it is your job to start the rebellion against Ultor. Your goal is to stay alive long enough to bring down Ultor and solve the mystery of the plague that is about to kill every miner. This journey goes from miles beneath Mars, to satellites around earth. Just make sure you dont leave your miner friends behind.

Graphics: This is where Red Faction gets all of its attention. Whether its right in front of you, or 100 feet away, the detail is simply amazing. Ranging from cracks in rocks, running water, or plants swaying in the wind. What!?! No door? Lets make one! You can take out a rocket launcher, and blow whole into rocks and cement walls, if there is no door. What a way of traveling. The character detail is lacking that little extra umph. The animation movies look a little awkward when walking, it can get quite sketchy. Words do not match up with their mouths frequently and it can look a little silly. Weapons all have there own graphics and are very detailed, going down to the smoke from a gun shot or the lines in the wood. These little things are what makes game like this become a greatest hit.

Sound: Red Faction is known for its techno music. When all is good, the techno is slow, and soft, and when action/tension builds up, the volume is cranked up and the music is fast paced. The sounds in the game are nothing special, they are just ordinary and simple. The enemies repeat the fraise Miner Scum! In the period of 5 minutes over 10 times, it can get quite annoying. The sounds of rocks blowing into pebbles and glass breaking have really good sound affects, and it sounds different every time. I give the sound a 7 out of 10.

Gameplay: The gameplay combines some classic shooting factors and new ideas using the newest technology available at the time. The solo mission is quite long and is worthy of playing. It will keep you up day on end. Over 12 hours is needed to beat this game. FPS is known for having to beat a game once to open up something new, but not in Red Faction. The multiplayer missions only have 9 levels to offer you, and the first few are a tad boring. Instead of having areas and levels, it is one big level. The weapons they have to offer are some; detonators, machine guns, sniper rifle, and the one and only rail gun. The rail gun has the power to shoot through any wall and kill anyone or anything in one swift shot. The thing in the gameplay that really has it moment of fame is the geo-mod technology. This gives you the chance to discharge holes in and blow up much of the environment in the game. Volatile weapons such as grenades and rocket launchers leave massive holes at their collision point. Also, there are secret areas in rock walls filled with the best weapons and extra health.

To buy, or not to buy: Buy this game, unless you are a game geek there is no way you could beat this game in one week. Even if you could, I would still buy it because a few months down the road you will wish you had to play with your friend. Red Faction is one of the best FPS for the Playstation 2. It is a greatest hit anyways, only $20.00.

Originality: This games originality has sparked over 40,000 people and has already made over 250,000 on sales. Just this fact shows its originality. Also the fact that you can
shoot down bridges bringing soldiers to their death, now thats originalty.
