The Mark of Kri offers an intense and thrilling fighting adventure that is in an arcade-style format. You have the power of exploring 3D environments with stealth and strategy missions. The story line is filled with excitement and is truly original. Play the role of Rau, an intrepid Indian warrior with the strength of 1,000 men. Travel through full lush 3-D rainforest like environments to discover his familys sinister secret. The gameplay is entirely new, and clever, along with amazing definition in Rau and enemy character design. This pushes the Playstations powers and is remarkable for its early release. Annihilation is the plan. This is a stomach turning straightforward game that will glue you to your screen for hours and hours of play. Get ready for 6 intense levels of action and gore.
The graphics are like a computer animated Disney movie. Everything flows together smoothly. No choppy animation, or jagged edges. The cut-scenes are shown in-between each mission, showing and describing the mission at the same time. It is set up so the designers can have Disney like movie graphics, and have them high quality, without having to focus on ultra realism. The textures are excellent, the water, although not interactive, is beautiful and the jungles and settings are near perfect. Raus backpack is detailed great. You can see every weapon he has earned popping out of it. As Rau is standing still, he moves up and down, as if he is out of breath and is breathing hard. There is a 3rd person view, so it shows that they actually tried to make the graphics improved instead of a FPS perspective. Rau has many awesome, violent moves, such as breaking necks, jabbing enemies in the gut with a sword, and body slamming them, all with great definition, and there are no glitches that are totally noticeable. Bodies do not even go through walls or into the ground. Complete definition. The only thing I do not recommend is the amount of fog in some levels, they over exaggerate.
The sounds are great. They make you cringe, the snapping on bones, the sound of dripping blood, and hacking through some flesh, its all real. Birds crowing, rushing water, and animals moving in the leaves or shrubs has a pragmatic touch to it, and brings you into the game. Also, when you strike a rock or a tree trunk with your sword it has its own unique sound and everything is distinguishable. The background music has a good Indian feel to it. Usually, the music is calm, and when spotted by an enemy it gets faced paced, in a drum roll sort of way.
The game mixes, stealth, hack & slash and strategic fighting all into one nice neat wrapped up package with a bow on top. The targeting system works well and is easy to get the hang of. The targeting button is the right analog stick, and is easily done. The stealth mode is similar the Metal Gear Solid series, you adhere to walls, crawl and sneak up and strangle enemies. You just move the right analog towards an oncoming enemy and he is automatically assigned one of the 4 buttons on your controller, so once the button is assigned, you press the assigned button and Rau attacks that particular enemy, one of his best graphical attacks is when he smashes the enemys skull into the ground. You have a spirit guide, it is a bird named Kuzo, which helps you out on your expedition. Kuzo is with you from beginning to end. You can use Kuzo to explore out in farther up, so you know what you can be expecting ahead. Gameplay merits a 9/10.
Replayability There are many secrets and rewards to look forward to, so if you dont get them the first time around, go back and get them again, for new enemies and missions. There is also a feature where you have 5 minutes to kill as many foes as possible. You can use it as a two-player mode, or play alone, by yourself. I recommend renting this game, because it is short, but dont get me wrong; it is an extremely fun game. If you like to have a collection of these types of games go ahead buy it, it is only $40.00. The max time it will take for you to beat is only about 8 hours
