Jak and Daxter Review
Sometimes, you have to credit the creators of a videogame for doing a tremendous job and creating a highly enjoyable experience. Other times, however, the gaming industry deserves to be cussed at because of some of the trash that's released on the market.  Jak and Daxter doesn't fall into neither of the categories. The game should receive kudos for stabilizing the PS2 with a good selling game, but it didn't truly meet my expectations.  That's not to see it isn't worth your time Take a look for yourself and see if Naughty Dog's newest assignment is worth 10-15 hours of your time or if it's just another rebel without a cause

Gameplay: This is possibly the area that interested me the least.  What can I say; this is just like Super Mario World in 3D.  It's a whole lot of platform jumping, well timed jumps, and standard climbing to reach your goal.  Other than a change in environmental design, I found little in the varying of gameplay within Jak and Daxter.  There may be moments of bird riding, or Zoomer riding, but I found them rather tedious than innovative.  The times I fell to the level below only to have to do the part again and fall once more were numerous and aggravating.  The creators were surely aiming for a wider audience when creating this game, but for me, it was to plain.  Not to say it doesn't surpass most games in the same category. I simply set unreasonably high expectations for it.  On the other hand, if the gameplay falters, the story pulls together the game. It starts as a rescue mission for Jak's best friend Daxter, and it soon evolves into the rescue of the world.  With classic humor and a great set of characters, this game is worth taking a spin just for its character development and plot twists.  In the end, the gameplay sums up to a simple platformer without anything especially new going for it.   7/10

Graphics:  This game has SUPERB graphics.  There is no slowdown and no fog to clear out the area.  There aren't any loading screens either.  It makes the world simply feel more real as you move from area to area.  The character models have no jagged edges and the environmental details range from dust rising beneath Jak's feet or sand trickling down crumbling walls.  I simply love the graphics.  I often lay back to enjoy the graphics Naughty Dog has treated us with.  The characters themselves move in some of the smoothest ways I have ever seen, and each has there own style of moving.  The graphics are lush and colorful.  A full spectrum of colors was used to push the limits of the PS2.  A wonderful job!  10/10

Sound:  The sound in this game is great, if you don't get fed up of hearing an extremely boring clank-clank-clank because of Jak's walking on metal, gravel, or dirt.  The music was nothing memorable but it finds its place and offers for a mixed bag of emotions.  Voicing is right on and characters voices matchwell the characters. A good job overall.  8/10

Overall: For the low Greatest Hits price of 19.99 anyone should buy this game.  You might be too bored to finish it but its still worth some time.  Let's put it this way, I you absolutely loved the old style games and would like to fall in love with basically the same thing in 3d, buy it.  On the other hand, I you want something innovative and new, go for the sleeper hit Ratchet and Clank.
