lately i keep reading about some "religious sect" (aka a cult) called the Raelians who claim to have succeded in creating a healthy human clone. On december 26 a baby girl was born to a couple in america who have been wanting a baby but couldn't for whatever reason. The baby girl, named Eve, is supposed to be a clone of her mother. The actual cloning was done by a company called Clonaid which was established by the raelian sect in 1997. Clonaid said they took a skin cell from the mother and extracted the nucleus, then took an unfertalized egg from the same mother and removed the nucleus and replaced it with the one from the skin cell, the egg was given a jolt of electricity in the lab, prompting it to divide and form an embryo, then the cell was implanted back into the mother. Most people doubt that the Raelians would have access to that kind of technology and an independent inspector will be allowed to take DNA from the baby and her mother to verify that the newborn is a clone. Probably because they declined to show any sort of evidence that the baby is indeed a clone.
Now what people are talking about is the ethics of human cloning. Because lets face it, cloning is a risky buissness. It's something we've only really speculated at before now and we really don't know whats going to happen. Just because the baby appears healthy on the outside doesn't mean it won't develop wrong. What happens if it starts to age abnormaly fast? Or developes arthritis like Dolly the sheep. What will happen to it days, months, years from now? Will it stil be ok? we don't know! and four more babies are expected in January! Personally i think thats insane! Whats worse is the fact that until they announced it no one really had any idea this was happening! bad bad bad!!! What about the impact that being a clone has on the child! i mean imagine knowing your a CLONE! how creepy is that! well thats all i care to write for now so
endy-doody
