The Diary of Played Out

You think you know... but you have no idea

A Cover Story

So it all started October of 2002... Charlie first met D-bo through the introduction of his ex (Erika - girlfriend at time), knowing they both had the same taste in music and in desperate of starting a band. After jamming out at D-bo's living room (where all the equipment was at the time), a few hang outs, they decided they needed a drummer, Preston Blackwell. He didnt quite last a week or so, but luckily the same day he left one of D-bo's best friends, Victor Garcia, stopped by with the ex. D-bo knowing that Victor had played drums for a good number of years, he asked him to join the band but refused. Being asked to play drums, Charlie was amazed on how good he was, and so after being convinced Victor finally said yeah. By the end of November, A Cover Story, was finally complete: D-bo on bass, Charlie on guitar and vocals, and Victor on drums. After everything was moved to the garage and a few practices later Charlie decided to get someone else as singer, Josh Perez - formerly in The Dreaded Dandylions. Once everything was settled they tried out for the talent show, December 7th 2002, at Sharpstown High School. It didnt turn out all that great, had a few technical problems but that didnt stop the band from continuing their careers. Josh Perez left the band to return to The Dreaded Dandylions.

The New Way Around

Once the singer left, the band decided for a new line up. Charlie moved up to vocals (though still on guitar), D-bo with bass, Victor on drums, but they decided to bring in another guitarrist, Steven Ramirez. Charlie had known Steven since childhood and the rest of the gang had seen this guy before at school. One Saturday afternoon he brought him over for try outs and with all the luck he had, he made it. Steven got stuck with rhythm. With a new line up it felt the name once again should change - Played Out, it was a name that would fit all 4 and their surroundings. Had another talent show on January 29 [once again sucked - technical problems], featuring a local rapper, J-Double. Three months after being together a decision was made, they were ready for a real gig. With the help of No Way Drive, Played Out had their first real gig on March 30th 2003 at Cardis 2000 with the following bands: No Way Drive, The Dreaded Dandylions, and Patched.

"This aint your ordinary punk band, they great looking, talented, hilarious, greatest friends anyone could ever ask for, not only that but theyre all HISPANICS. Coming out from the southwest side of Houston (Sharpstown-Ghettoville), they sure have shown what Sharpstown is really all about. It aint just ghetto, and Played Out had proven that."
- Manager Isaac Salgado, Dis Guy Here Entertainment

A New Beginning

After hundreds of beers, 17 girls, and about 30 shows, Played Out made a tremendous decision on March of 2004, a new singer was to be found. Charlie backed away from vocals and got stuck to leads. Jonathon Head had sung with PO a few months back before he was officially in the band. Jonathon, also known as J-Man (Charlies younger brother), was more into the R&B stuff. With their punkish sounds and his R&B vocals, it was thought to be an amazing combination... to be continued
