HALF NOTES

You can play half notes in the flute by placing your fingers in the upper rim of each of the flute hole. Given the above diagram where the player places his left hand index finger in the first hole of the flute. Try blowing the flute by partially covering the flute hole by placing your finger in outer rim of the flute hole. Please do not confuse half notes to half beats, they are two entirely different concepts. Half notes here refer the position of your fingers in various flute holes that produces a particular sound. The concept of beats will be covered later.

Once you start playing faster it becomes habitual to scoop the hole of the flute with your fingers in anti clock wise direction and then lifting the fingers up to the position shown in the above picture, where the fingers are partially covering the flute hole to play the half/quater note.

Half notes of each of the flute hole is represented as follows:

Each half note is represented by a sharp sign in front of its positional hole.

HALF NOTE OF THE FIRST HOLE: #1

HALF NOTE OF THE SECOND HOLE:#2

HALF NOTE OF THE THIRD HOLE #3

HALF NOTE OF THE FOURTH HOLE #4

HALF NOTE OF THE FIFTH HOLE#5
