| Sweden has a reputation for producing fun, fresh, and innovative exports and now the pop quartet, Play, is aiming to uphold their high nationally set standards. Though these young teenagers, Anais Lemeche, Rosie Munter, Faye Hamlin, and Anna Sundstrand, only range in age between 14 and 15, they already have garnered much attention in Europe and through the 2001 TeeNick Tour with Aaron Carter and Swedish compatriots, A*Teens. To add, they are tearing up the RadioDisney charts and currently hold the 11th spot for their song, Us Against the World, which was written by Samantha Mumba and Anais sister, Amanda. Co-managed by Matthew Knowles, the force behind Destinys Child, Play works with some of the hottest and most popular producers today. Rick Wake, Evans & Sturken, and Anders Bag Bagge are among them; pulled in to work with Play because of their success with such artists as Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, and 98 Degrees. Play was miraculously welcomed into the Columbia Records family after singing over the phone to Tommy Mottola, during a rehearsal. They were officially signed to Columbia Records after Mottola viewed a demo video of the girls and they were exactly what he was looking for in a new band. Play set out to accomplish some serious work. But their first song, Us Against the World, truly epitomizes what the girls really stand for: friendship and working together as a team. The mid-tempo Boys Lie follows suit as a song about guys lying to get what they want. Disco Hippie is a retro party song where Fayes standout vocals really shine. Though the girls of Play are too busy to have boyfriends right now while balancing their music and school, they do have their fair share of teenage crushes. Right now, fellow musicians Lil Bow Wow is high on their list. He also happens to hold the #10 spot on the Radio Disney charts for his song, Basketball. These Swedish starlets are ready to share their songs, their styles, and their message to fans across America. Starting with small shows in major cities, such as the February 19th performance at the Times Square Toys R Us in New York City, they are reaching out to fans on a very personal basis. After performing a few songs, including Whole Again, they signed autographs for a winding line of eager fans. But they dont want to think of them as just fans; they want them to be their friends too. For a young band, they have a grown-up sound but maintain an important message in the hectic pace of our everyday lives: take the time out from work to enjoy yourself, and play! Their new album Replay will be in stores June 10th. More band info is available at www.play-central.com. Source: kiwibox.com |
