- The Fire Still Burns -
Time To Move Onto Bigger and Better Things
-[ It was late in 1999 when Cody and Tomorrow Man had their first encounter with Hellz Angel and Devilz Messenger, collectively known as Devilz Darkside. On that night, Cody and Tomorrow Man went out there, did their thing, and came out with a victory. Thats the same thing that happened at the recent Monday Insomnia event. Cody and Tomorrow Man walked it, did their thing, and walked out with another win. How many wins is that against Devilz Darkside? Who knows. Even here in 2003, Cody and Tomorrow Man still prove themselves to be a force that is hard to beat in the world of tag team wrestling. Is it Devilz Darksides fault that they lost? Not really. They are talented enough to win. They have the experience to pull off a victory. But they keep falling short. ]-
-[ So, is it time for both teams to move onto bigger and better things? Let bygones be bygones? Maybe. Cody and Tomorrow Man have to move on this week and leave their longtime feud with Devilz Darkside to take a seat on the backburnerfor now. It is widely known that Devilz Darkside is on their last legs and it is also known that they wont give up without a fight. So this feud between the two teams is definitely not over with just yet. If youre a betting man, Id almost say its a safe bet to say that the next time around for the two will be highly anticipated because there might be some championship gold on the line. That will be something to see. ]-
-[ But first, somebody has to take the Tag Team Championship from the current holders, Big Poppa and Sapphire. A couple weeks ago Big Poppa was lucky enough to get the pin over Cody in the final stages of the Tag Team Royal Rumble match and win the Tag Team Titles. Sure, it was an unconventional way to win tag team gold but nonetheless, it was a win. Now comes the true test to see who the better tag team is when the two teams finally meet in an actual tag team match. If you wanted a pay-per-view caliber match for free, then here you go. Watch the main event next week. Both teams will make sure not to sell you short. ]-
-[ This week Cody and Tomorrow Man took a flight back to their hometown of San Francisco to get some much needed rest. Being stuck on a cramped up plane for hours doesnt do a body any good. Staying in Beijing for more than a day wont do you any good either with that severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) being an epidemic over there. Why somebody in the Front Office didnt cancel the event there is beyond all the wrestlers on the roster. In any event, Tomorrow Man is sitting in his small apartment, digging through some junk mail, mostly throwing it all away. His left arm is feeling quite sore after the match with Devilz Darkside so he gets up and walks over to the sink and grabs a glass of water. He walks back to his kitchen table, takes a seat, and grabs his large bottle of aspirin off the center of the table with his right hand. He opens the bottle and shakes two capsules into his right hand. He takes one, places it in his mouth, takes a drink of water, and swallows. Then he does it again for the second pill. God does he feel miserable. ]-
Tomorrow Man: Damn, I nearly forgot!
-[ He leans over in his seat, reaches into his right back jeans pocket and pulls out his wallet. He opens it up and pulls out a business card. Its for Dr. Amy Campbells physical therapy office. Once he finds the phone number on the card, he reaches for the cordless phone thats also sitting on the kitchen table. He dials the number with only his right hand, making sure not to use his left arm that much. After one ring the receptionist answers the phone. ]-
Receptionist: Dr. Amy Campbells office, how many I help you?
Tomorrow Man: Ah, yes, this isTom Man. Is there anyway I can speak with Dr. Campbell?
Receptionist: Yes, Mr. Man. Let me put you on hold for a moment.
-[ The receptionist puts him on hold and Tomorrow Man sits there with the phone to his ear, waiting. After a long two minutes, Dr. Campbell picks up the phone on the other end. ]-
Dr. Campbell: Hello?
Tomorrow Man: Yeah, this is Tom Man. Im calling back to tell you what my partner and I have decided to do about my situation.
-[ Dr. Campbell chuckles to herself on the other end because she knows his name isnt Tom Man, but still, shes happy hes calling instead of getting a second opinion. ]-
Dr. Campbell: All right, well what have you decided?
Tomorrow Man: For now, Ill tough it out and hold off the operation for a couple weeks.
Dr. Campbell: I told you about the risks of doing that, right?
Tomorrow Man: Yes, and Im willing to take those risks for now.
Dr. Campbell: Ok, Im just making sure.
-[ Then they both go silent for a moment. You know, the awkward pause. Then suddenly, something flies out of Tomorrow Mans mouth that he isnt even prepared for. ]-
Tomorrow Man: Listen, Im not too good at this so I dont know if Im being too forward or what, but would you like to go out to dinner sometime?
-[ Of course, if Tomorrow Man is thrown off by it even when it came from his mouth, Dr. Campbell is thrown off just as much on the other end. ]-
Dr. Campbell: Um
Tomorrow Man: sorry, I shouldnt have even asked
Dr. Campbell: no, its perfectly all right. I just wasnt expecting it is all. Actually, Id love to sometime.
Tomorrow Man: Really?
Dr. Campbell: Yes, but under one condition though.
Tomorrow Man: Whats that?
Dr. Campbell: You have to tell me your REAL name.
-[ Tomorrow Man chuckles with her briefly and just gives in. Prepare, Advantage Wrestling. You are the first to hear what Tomorrow Mans real name is. Lucky you. ]-
Tomorrow Man: MarkMark McIntyre.
Dr. Campbell: Ooo, I like it. You should stick with it.
Tomorrow Man: Thanks, maybe I will, Amy. So when are you free?
Dr. Campbell: I usually get out of here around 5:30 most days.
Tomorrow Man: Would you like to meet somewhere, say around 7 oclock tomorrow?
Dr. Campbell: Sure. Where?
Tomorrow Man: Do you know where Monticellos is?
Dr. Campbell: Ive never been there before. Is it on Ridge Road?
Tomorrow Man: Yeah, thats the place.
Dr. Campbell: All right, well Ill meet you there at 7 tomorrow, Mark.
Tomorrow Man: All right. Bye.
Dr. Campbell: Bye.
-[ Tomorrow Man hangs up the phone, stands up, and throws both his arms up in the air with joy. ]-
Tomorrow Man: Yes! I am a man!
-[ He then quickly throws both his arms back down and grabs his left shoulder in pain. ]-
Tomorrow Man: Son of a!
-[ Meanwhile, Cody is over at The Butchers Clinic hanging out with his friends The Butcher and his wife Nikki. He supposed to meet Tomorrow Man there shortly but decided to show up early to catch a glimpse of The Butchers students practicing. The Butcher is over in the ring hip tossing his students one at a time so they get the art down pat. Cody is sitting far away in a bleacher section watching with Nikki. ]-
Nikki: So hows the wrestling gig still going?
Cody: Were doing all right. T-Mans injured though.
Nikki: What happened?
Cody: Tore his left rotator cuff a little bit on the first night of action.
Nikki: Ouch. Is he going to be all right?
Cody: Yeah, hes going to tough it out for awhile then have it fixed. We have a title match on Monday, thats why hes going to put it off.
-[ Nikki winks at him. ]-
Nikki: You guys going to win?
Cody: Damn right we are! What a stupid question.
-[ Nikki playfully hits him on the shoulder. ]-
Nikki: Im only messing with ya.
-[ Nikki and Cody have always had a bizarre relationship. Nikkis a couple years older than Cody but theyve always gotten along great. Shes playful, sexy, and still the girl next door all wrapped into one and Codys always loved that about her. Sure, shes a attractive girl but shes one of the only women Codys been with where her looks really didnt matter. Her personality is just perfect to him and he knows for a fact that his friend, The Butcher, is a lucky man. ]-
Nikki: So when you win on Monday, how many times have you and Tomorrow Man won tag team gold?
-[ Cody holds out both his hands and extends seven figured. ]-
Cody: Seven times.
Nikki: Wow. When you started wrestling did you ever figure that youd win so many?
Cody: Tag team gold? No. Maybe singles but not tag team.
Nikki: Now how come youve never really broke away and went on your own? I mean, youre good enough to make a splash in singles competition if you wanted.
-[ Cody looks out at the ring where the students are practicing. The Butcher is out of the ring now and watching the students sort of spar with each other in the ring. ]-
Cody: Ive thought about it but its just never really happened. Where T-Man goes, I go. Where I go, T-Man goes. Were a team and we get things done as a team. Maybe someday down the road I will go at it alone but for now Im happy being half of one of the greatest tag teams in the world today.
Nikki: Yeah, you guys are good.
Cody: Sure are. But our competition is starting to pick up some now so things should get interesting real soon. For now though, weve got to focus on beating Big Poppa and Sapphire and win those straps.
Nikki: Sapphires a female wrestler, right?
Cody: Yeah.
-[ Nikki gets a sly grin over her face but Cody doesnt take notice because hes facing the other way and watching whats going on in the ring. ]-
Nikki: Let me ask you a personal question.
Cody: Shoot.
Nikki: Ok, say youre in the ring with Sapphire on Monday. Do you take advantage on her?
-[ Cody turns around and looks at Nikki. ]-
Cody: What do you mean, like use my strength to overpower her?
-[ Nikki laughs playfully because Cody is trying to throw her off. ]-
Nikki: You know what I mean.
Cody: Like feel her up and stuff? No!
Nikki: Suuuure.
Cody: Hey, Im a professional here!
Nikki: Yeah, I know you are. The second you get a chance to grab her ass or touch a breast, youll do it.
Cody: Hey! Thats not fair!
Nikki: Im just speaking the truth is all.
Cody: I cant do any of that stuff, Nik. Poppas her boyfriend and he wont be too far away.
Nikki: Oh like thats stopped you before!
-[ Nikki starts to laugh louder as Cody blushes. Cody pushes her some lightheartedly. ]-
Cody: Knock it off.
-[ Nikki keeps laughing while Cody pulls the hood on his hoodie over his face and shakes his head. Meanwhile, The Butcher has ended todays class and has walked over to the two. He sees Nikki laughing and Cody hiding his head. ]-
The Butcher: All right, break it up you two.
-[ Nikki gets down off the bleachers and stands next to her husband. She hugs him and kisses him while Cody throws his hood back. ]-
Cody: You believe this, Butch? Your woman is busting my chops.
The Butcher: Good, you deserve it.
-[ Nikki looks at Cody and sticks her tongue out at him. ]-
The Butcher: So is Tomorrow Man coming or what?
-[ Cody pulls back his sleeve and looks at his watch. ]-
Cody: Yeah, hes coming. Should be here soon.
-[ The Butcher reaches into his pants pocket and pulls out a small set of keys. He tosses them to Cody who naturally catches them. ]-
The Butcher: Lock up when you two get done tonight. Were going out to relax some this evening.
Cody: Ah, Butch is gonna get laid.
The Butcher: Hey, Im doing you a favor here. Dont be an ass.
-[ Cody brings his right hand up to his forehead and salutes The Butcher. ]-
Cody: Yes, sir!
-[ The students come out from their locker rooms and begin to exit the facility. As the students leave, Tomorrow Man sneaks his way in and joins the party. ]-
The Butcher: Hey, T-Man.
Cody: I told you hed come.
Nikki: Cody told me youre injured. You all right?
-[ Tomorrow Man points at his left shoulder. ]-
Tomorrow Man: Yeah, Ive got a slight tear in my rotator cuff. Ill be all right though.
The Butcher: Damn, thats not good. When are you going to have it fixed?
Tomorrow Man: Whenever.
-[ The Butchers best student, Foxx Regor, is the last student to leave. On his way out the door, he stops over to see Cody and Tomorrow Man. ]-
Foxx: Hi, guys. So where are they?
Cody: Wheres what?
Foxx: The titles. You won them, right?
Tomorrow Man: No.
-[ Foxx looks right at Cody, looking as if hes going to push his buttons a little. ]-
Foxx: Ah, so youre a bunch of failures then.
-[ Those kind words make Cody stand up and point at Regor authoritatively. Sure, they lost but they arent failures and Cody is going to make sure Regor hears about it. ]-
Cody: One, yes, we lost. You cant win them all. Two, we arent failures. Youre only a failure if you dont do anything about it. Three, take a hike, rookie.
Foxx: Sure thing, kid.
-[ Regor grins mischievously because he knows how to annoy Cody too easily. He turns to The Butcher and shakes his hand. ]-
Foxx: See you tomorrow, teach.
The Butcher: Have a nice night, Foxx.
-[ He then nods at both Cody and Tomorrow Man and heads for the door. Everybody watches as the door slowly closes behind him. ]-
Cody: Arrogant bastard.
The Butcher: Almost reminds me of someone.
-[ The Butcher gives Cody a smirk. ]-
The Butcher: Back to before, when are you going to be patched up, T-Man?
Tomorrow Man: Whenever the time is right. I called Amy today and told her what I was going to do.
Nikki: Amy?
Tomorrow Man: I mean Dr. Campbell.
Cody: You called her that the other day too, bro. Sounds like my partner here has himself a girly friend.
Tomorrow Man: Shut up.
-[ Nikki tugs on The Butchers right arm a little as if shes trying to drag him somewhere. ]-
Nikki: Come on, Jimmy, lets get out of here. These guys have some work to do.
The Butcher: Yeah, youre right. Ill talk to you two tomorrow.
-[ The Butcher and Nikki make their way towards the door, then The Butcher turns around and looks back at his friends again as Nikki walks out the door. ]-
The Butcher: Remember to lock the place up, Cody.
Cody: Right. Have a good one.
-[ The Butcher waves and walks out the door. Once hes gone, Cody and Tomorrow Man start to make the long walk towards the ring. ]-
Cody: You like her, dont you?
Tomorrow Man: Who?
Cody: You know, that Amy chick.
-[ Tomorrow Man scoffs at the accusation and keeps on walking. ]-
Cody: Dude, you arent fooling anybody. Nobody calls their doctor by their first name.
Tomorrow Man: She asked me to call her that.
Cody: Dude, youre in!
-[ Tomorrow Man stops and looks at Cody a little perplexed. ]-
Tomorrow Man: What?
Cody: You went there for business and she tells you to call her by her first name. First names are personal, bro. She must like you too.
-[ They start to walk towards the ring again. ]-
Tomorrow Man: I guess.
Cody: Man, I know what Im talking about.
Tomorrow Man: Sure you do.
Cody: Hey, when was the last time you hit a homerun with a girl?
-[ Tomorrow Man turns around and almost decks Cody but holds back. He enters the ring and starts to stretch out some. ]-
Tomorrow Man: All right, fine.
Cody: Whats that?
-[ Cody reaches up to the middle rope and starts to pull himself up onto the ring apron. ]-
Tomorrow Man: I asked her out.
Cody: What?!
-[ Cody is so awestruck by what his partner just said that he falls off the apron and lands on his ass on the floor. He quickly gets up and rolls into the ring. ]-
Cody: Did I hear that right?
Tomorrow Man: Yeah, I asked her out.
-[ Tomorrow Man pulls on one of the top ropes to get a little stretch on his arms, but lets go quickly because his left shoulder gets some pain. Cody is standing in the middle of the ring with both his hands on his head, amazed. ]-
Cody: Holy shit! What did she say?!
Tomorrow Man: She said yes. Were going to meet at Monticellos tomorrow at 7.
Cody: Ill be damned! My little T-Man is growing up.
-[ Tomorrow Man gets himself into a wrestling stance. ]-
Tomorrow Man: Are we going to talk all night or are we going to practice?
Cody: All right, all right.
-[ Cody takes off his sweatshirt and tosses it aside. Then both he can Tomorrow Man lock up to get the long and important night started. Only time will tell if the work pays off or if theyre both too preoccupied by other things to get the win they need. ]-
