-[ Nikki makes her way down the stairs as the doorbell rings again. As she reaches the door, she looks through the peep hole to see who it could possibly be behind the door. To her surprise, it�s her friends, Cody and Tomorrow Man. They are suppose to be in San Francisco right now and she wonders why they�ve come back. She is happy that they have decided to come visit her, though, and she opens the door slightly so she can pop her head out. ]-
Nikki: Hey, guys. I�ll be with you guys in just a second. I just got out of the shower.
Cody: Sure thing.
-[ Nikki closes the door and runs upstairs to put some clothes on. Cody and Tomorrow Man stand outside looking around and waiting. ]-
Tomorrow Man: I told you we should have called first.
Cody: Yeah, I think you�re right. But there isn�t anything we can do about it now.
-[ They wait a few more minutes and then the door opens again. Nikki stands there in a green t-shirt and some jeans that aren�t so clean. She holds up her keys to her head and smiles. ]-
Nikki: We�re going on a road trip!
-[ She walks past Cody and Tomorrow Man and makes her way towards the car. Cody and Tomorrow Man don�t understand what�s going on and follow carefully. She unlocks the doors and opens them. ]-
Nikki: Get in, guys. I�ve got to go get some things.
-[ Cody and Tomorrow Man listen to her and get into the car as she walks back inside the house. Tomorrow Man sits in the backseat while Cody sits in the front passenger side. Cody turns and looks at Tomorrow Man. ]-
Cody: What�s going on?
Tomorrow Man: I have no idea.
-[ Nikki comes back outside with some shovels and places them in the back. Cody and Tomorrow Man look at each other again, this time REALLY wondering what�s going on. She walks back to the house, locks the door, and comes back towards the car. As she gets in, Cody stops her from starting the car. ]-
Cody: Um, where are we going?
Nikki: You�ll see when we get there. Trust me.
Tomorrow Man: We�d really like to know first.
Nikki: It�s a surprise. You wouldn�t want me to ruin it, would you?
-[ Cody lets her start the engine because he trusts her judgment. She puts the car in drive and takes off as the sun begins to set. She seems to be driving a little faster than usual as they make their way down a few side streets. Then she starts to slow down as they approach Holy Trinity Cemetery. She turns into the cemetery and this really freaks out Cody and Tomorrow Man, as thoughts of unburying someone with those shovels comes into their mind. They make their way down the dirt road to where Nikki�s husband, Jimmy Cortez was buried last week. She puts the car in park and turns off the engine because they have to walk the rest of the way. She gets out and walks to the back to grab the shovels. Cody and Tomorrow Man stay in the car, wanting nothing to do with this until she tells them what�s going on. ]-
Nikki: Come on, guys, get out.
Tomorrow Man: No!
Cody: Not until you tell us what the hell is going on.
-[ She lays the shovels down on the ground and gets back in the car. ]-
Nikki: All right, here�s the deal. I was on the phone with Dr. O�Connell earlier. Remember him?
Cody: Yeah. He was the guy that took care of Jimmy.
Nikki: Well, he called to tell me there was a mix up at the hospital. Just follow me with this because it gets complicated. When Jimmy died, his body was placed down in the morgue. Somehow his toe tag got mixed up with some other guy�s. Well this dude gave his body to science and so Jimmy got tested for all types of stuff. He failed some brain test because his brain was still working.
Tomorrow Man: What? Do you know what you�re saying?
Nikki: Yeah, I know it�s hard to believe. Dr. O�Connell told me that Jimmy�s body went into a deep coma so it could get better inside. That means he wasn�t dead! We might have buried him alive!
-[ Cody and Tomorrow Man think it over for a few seconds, trying to think if this is at all possible. ]-
Cody: Are you sure?
Nikki: Yes. You should have heard his voice. There was no way he was lying!
Tomorrow Man: So we�re going to unbury him?
Nikki: That�s the plan.
Cody: Why can�t we tell any one? I mean, there is proof that he�s still alive, right? So why not get help from the authorities?
Nikki: We can�t! The hospital doesn�t want anyone to know. O�Connell�s job is on the line and if they find out he told me, he�ll be fired! I promised I wouldn�t get the law involved. Please help me.
-[ Cody and Tomorrow Man look at each other and they know that they have to do this. They have to trust Nikki even though what they are about to do is highly illegal and goes against their better judgment. ]-
Tomorrow Man: We�ll help.
Nikki: Thank you, guys, so much!
-[ She hugs them and gets out of the car. Cody and Tomorrow Man get out as well and walk around the other side of the car. She hands them each a shovel and leads them to her husband�s plot. When they get there, they notice something rather unusual. The soil looks fresh. By now it should have settled with the rain a few days ago but this soil looks brand new. Nikki places her shovel into the soil and brings up some dirt. Cody and Tomorrow Man do the same. After a couple of minutes of shoveling, Nikki takes a break. She looks down and sees that the three of them have only gone a few inches deep. ]-
Nikki: This is going to take all night!
-[ Cody and Tomorrow Man don�t pay much attention to her and continue to dig, being driven by the fear that their friend may have been buried alive. Nikki looks around the cemetery, which is getting covered by more darkness with each passing second. Down on the other end of the cemetery she notices that a backhoe is parked at another grave site. She throws down the shovel. ]-
Nikki: I�ll be right back, guys.
-[ Cody and Tomorrow Man don�t say a word and just continue to dig. Nikki runs to the backhoe as quickly as possible, hoping that the key was left in the ignition. To her surprise it is and she fires up the engine like a pro. Cody and Tomorrow Man hear the machine start up and they quit their digging. They watch as Nikki weaves the heavy machinery down the aisles of graves in amazement. Finally, she reaches them and waves them away from plot of soil. She turns her seat around and starts to toy with the stick shifts which control the back shovel. She brings it down into fresh dirt and removes a couple feet that would have taken hours by hand. She releases the dirt over to the side and brings the large shovel down into the hole again to do the same thing. After removing a couple more feet, she turns off the backhoe�s engine, keeping the lights on so they can see what they are doing, and hops out. ]-
Cody: You have got to be kidding me.
Nikki: What?
Cody: Since when did you know how to use one of those?
-[ Nikki smiles and picks up her shovel again. ]-
Nikki: There are a few things you guys don�t know about me. Help me down into the hole.
-[ Cody and Tomorrow Man lower her down into the hole and she begins to dig until she bounces the shovel off of the casket. Once she does, she starts to clear the top area with her hands. She clears the top part off totally and looks up at Cody and Tomorrow Man before she opens it to see her husband�s face. ]-
Cody: Open it!
-[ She thinks it over for a second, hoping that they aren�t too late. She reaches for the top latch and unlatches it. She slowly brings the head door open, praying for the best. To her surprise, the casket is empty! She looks up at Cody and Tomorrow Man, looking like she�s about to cry. ]-
Tomorrow Man: What is it? Is he all right?
Nikki: He isn�t here!
-[ The scene fades out as the three look at each other, wondering what the hell is going on. ]-
