Underwater Tea
Just the drowning girl and me
It's a little weak she says
But to me it's just the same
We're spitting bubbles
And she's spelling my name
If the world only knew
What it is to be blue
Down here we've got sorrow
In the deepest hue
The water blocks the sound
Nobody's around
I'm sinking in the silence
Never to be found
Please paint a portrait of me
The drowning girl asked after tea
It's a little wet I say
But she insisted just the same
I want them all to see it
To know from where their sorrow came
If the world only knew
What it is to be blue
Down here we've got sorrow
In the deepest hue
The water blocks the sound
Nobody's around
I'm sinking in the silence
Never to be found
Fixed still in the water
Arms spread Christ-like and bare
Bubbles lost in a mess of hair
Eyes closed tight but no fight
It's her sad song to no one
She's falling but not down
Tell them they don't know how to drown
If the world only knew
What it is to be blue
Down here we've got sorrow
In the deepest hue
The water blocks the sound
Nobody's around
I'm sinking in the silence
Never to be found
The brave have come and gone
Swimming back to shore
They can't take the silence anymore
The brave never stay -
I think I like it better that way. |
