Today –
I wore a multi-colored hat
On a head that hates being covered
A most deplorable disposition
The sun is quite high
The wool is itchy
I have nowhere to go
I just sit at home
And I wear this hat
The mirror disapproves
And tells me I don't suit the hat
But I smile –
Adjust the bead in my nose ring
Take a quick look over my shoulder
To make sure my tattoo is still there
And laugh at the world
You look funny –
My brother tells me
When he sees me in my hat
It doesn't help –
When I'm wearing a red baseball shirt
A black skirt and blue sandals
I thank him
As I pluck at the strings
On my purple guitar
Why are you wearing that hat?
My mother asks
And perhaps you are asking -
The very same thing
We all need a little spice
In our bland little lives
And you can't deny
That the spice in my life -
My random variety
Hasn't given you
Something to talk about -
You're welcome. |
