Such a shame -
A sad, sad pity
When something so marvellous
So incredibly fantastic
That an adequate word
In the English language
To describe it -
Does not exist

A complete misfortune -
When a rare spectacle
Of nature
Becomes a social affair

A social affair!
Can you imagine?
A chance to flirt with
That boy you've had your eye on
An opportunity to gain
An elevated reputation
For being together

Appalling!
Being together -
Talking of trivialities
As a piece of the sky
That can never be re-seen
Passes you by

All those people
All those stars
As if the numbers need to correlate
For either to have any meaning

The crowd gasps
In mutual adoration
As a meteor lights the sky -
This amazing act of nature
Inexplicably phenomenal -

And a boy watches a girl
As she watches the sky -
Thinking of him.
Someone takes another swig of beer
As a cell phone goes off
